Sunday we have a gig in Köln: Pierre Boulez and Michel van der Aa. Interesting juxtaposition: Aa has lots of things like theatrical aspects (a miming percussionist, a metronome that gradually gets covered in gaffer tape) and electronics, the main Boulez piece is completely abstract and absolutely gorgeous. It's not 'about' anything, just harmonies, melodies, rhythms, constantly fluctuating speeds, colours...

MY GOD IT'S HARD THOUGH!  Shocked

I have to say that your concert sounds quite surreal... a miming percussionist?? - reminds me of the old trick in teaching... if your violinist at the back of seconds played badly put soap on the bow before a concert !! Roll Eyes

Hope it goes well ollie

That Köln gig sounds fab Ollie.
Don't suppose it'll be coming to the UK at any point?
I suspect that, even if it did, it would only be London...

plib?

Thanks folks. Oddly enough London doesn't seem too interested in us but Huddersfield may happen this year. That's never certain till the after-gig beer at the Head of Steam though. Fingers crossed!

It sounds like Pli selon Pli. It is the sensuous indeterminacy of that and other Boulez that I like so much - as if the piece might be different every time it is played. Is this a new Boulez piece, or one that I might already know?

Am I the only person who wonders if the Powers That BeBC considered and discarded the possibility of "restructuring" the boards on the 14th?

See the thread 'More Smileys' in the Announcements section!

My Dear Il Grande Inquisitor

I thought I had finally made it with the smileys last night. I registered, saved the smileys and then bookmarked them. I think that may have been where I went wrong. I`ve got the little devils, but how the hell do I get them into my message? I am going through my blonde period at the moment. Sigh. Sad Sad Angry

Morticia,

Once you have opened the 'photobucket' page and chosen your smiley, you will see there are three possible links for each. Left-click on the bottom one, which starts with IMG and it will automatically copy it. Then, switch back to your message, right-click and paste and your smiley   should appear!

Bws

Mark

(Can't see little devils anywhere, though...)
