the joys of this hour are uncounted. i can listen to music (albeit through headphones) without any threat of being called away to heave recycling boxes around, immerse myself fully in wonderment at the depth of Tolkien's imagination (no-one's answered my poetry appreciation post yet, btw Cry ), even practise! (on fairly decent electric pianna).

and even better, i know that herr stewart's offering will be arriving, not only relieving me of exam pressure, but also saving me from the perilous distractions caused by a certain Lord of blackly-romantically-motivated bearing who lives hereabouts.  Grin

Haven't read him in ages! I would like to re-read The Hobbitt in the near future. Cool

I have to say I prefer to read Tolkein than to see the films. Dare I say I got bored watching the films?

A - o the films have rather gone down in my estimations... at one point i hadn't read the part of the book that the film was showing  Roll Eyes  Embarrassed

but now i see just how much they missed out, and honestly filmies don't know the half of it! still... they're still rather good for increasing concentration-spans, eh?! (dare i mention the last half hour of the final instalment *yawn*)

Speaking of writers from the past: Tolkien's works were translated into Dutch by a man called Max Schuchart. He also translated stories by T.H. White:

I've got an Icelandic translation of The Hobbit, by Thorsteinn Thorarensen: "Hobbitinn, eða út og heim aftur." (The Hobbit, or There and Back Again.)

I haven't seen the films of The Lord of the Rings, but I saw the first twenty minutes of the first one on television and it seemed too Irish and Celtic for me. Not that there's anything wrong with Irish and Celtic but it's not my idea of Tolkien and I think it was an American ploy to give the films wider appeal.

Re: global warming.  The science is unproven, but it looks very much like burning fuels and our hedonistic lifestyles have an impact on the climate.  As someone with a 4 year old son, I won't take the risk of carrying on such an extravagant lifestyle......  If you have children, perhaps consider the same?

Anyway, just popped in to say that for the first time ever I have found some beauty in London.  All you have to do is look up 6 ft higher than normal.  That has helped me find some lovely buildings, and even a garden (Pheonix Gardens).

Happy Tommo!

it is proven,it is also too late to stop it but the media are in conspiracy with the secret world government to keep it shhhh to stop panic
