An unexpected bonus from the RSNO concert in Dundee last night.
I always look through the orchestra and chorus listings to see if there are any names I know, and amongst the tenors, I spotted an unusual double-barrelled name which was exactly the same as someone who had taught me classics down south, 40 years ago. When the massed ranks came onto the platform at the end of the interval, I spotted someone who might have been him. By chance the Chorus Master (whose photograph was in the programme) had come into the auditorium to see the second half, and since there was no sign of the conductor or soloist, I slipped across and asked him if I was right in thinking that the man with the shock of white hair and big white beard was called XXX. He said yes, asked why, and when I mentioned that I had had a teacher with the same name who looked similar, confirmed that this man was indeed a retired teacher.
After the performance I found the exit door that the chorus were using, and pounced upon the tenor in question as he came through. My suspicions were correct, but since they were to be bussed back to Glasgow, there was very little time to talk. He did give me his email address, though, and I mailed him as soon as I arrived home. I'm delighted to find that he's replied already this morning.

I've been finding strange black residue that looks (but doesn't feel) like soil on my hands and ears recently. It's been a rather disturbing mystery (I've been suspecting my flat of all sorts of things) but discovered this morning that the foam of my i-r headphones is coming to pieces and shedding it's flesh into my ears! This may not really seem like Happy Room material, but I'm very happy to know what this stuff is! Going to an open day at Edinburgh's Sikh Gurdwara this afternoon.

And it made us laugh I have my uses I suppose... It also gives me an excuse to buy some new headphones... which is definitely a Happy Room topic, but will have to wait until I receive confirmation of my first paycheck.

Fingers crossed for you bbm. I'll be very happy when we're finally moving. After 6 months' progress we're now back to showing viewers around. It's like being in a nasty game of snakes and ladders - we were on about 97 then slid all the way down a long snake onto square 1. Sorry, this should be over in the Grumpy Room.

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.
