Bit of flying around this am to in state of semi-animation but I think I can now consider myself on holiday.
The fact`that` I don't actually have time to go anywhere isnt the entire point-its a less febrile regimen.
And some daffodils in N9 remain unsinged by passing angry mobs of rotarians.

Thank you trj. Its always good have someone like the MD to say how well you had done, dont you think? I thought what he said, about the band's standard had risen. Everyone seemed to know what they were doing and as a result, the playing was secure and the standard rose accordingly.

Smiley Smiley Smiley It's not official yet but our Ofsted went really well! We did as well as we could possibly have done - lots of praise for what we're doing. What a relief - not just that all our dedicated hard work has been recognised but at last it's no longer hanging over us. Apparently the last one was 6 years ago. We had an HMI visit a couple of years back which meant the Ofsted was delayed but a year ago we were sure it was imminent.

I can relax now - but I'll try not to spend the next few days catching up here... I've just counted 18 threads with new replies on my unread posts page. Of course I have tons of planning for next term to do but I think I'll have a bit of a break first. No teaching tomorrow as I'm on a course in the morning and it's our postponed Sport Relief walk 10x round the playing field in the afternoon. Then nice Easter activities on Thursday. So I almost feel as though I'm already on holiday! Smiley

Good news - well done, MJ and everyone at your school. It must be a tremendous relief. Make sure you have a good Easter hols - are you off for two weeks, or just the long weekend?

Good news MJ - I know it's a huge relief when it's all over.  It was bad enough for me as a Governor to go through it but I know the toll it takes on the teaching staff (and our last one was two weeks before Christmas).

Thanks IGI and Martle and PW.  Kiss

IGI, did I read somewhere last week that you're applying for an Acting Deputy Head's post? I've only caught up with two threads so far so I've missed all the latest news.

Off for 2 weeks on Thursday. Lots of jobs at home to catch up with so this is good timing. We were lucky we had a weekend to prepare for the inspection (plus the previous Thurs and Fri). It was actually very pleasant spending all day Saturday in school - I work with a great team. Our Head was there till midnight and then back again on Sunday. She's actually still on maternity leave but wasn't going to miss the Ofsted after all the work she's put into improving, indeed turning round, our school.

I must admit to being somewhat miffed that the Inspector only spent about 10 minutes in my classroom! And didn't look through any of our books. Sad  I was nervous all day yesterday expecting him to appear at any minute but he didn't. Then after he'd appeared and disappeared first thing this morning I was expecting him to reappear but he didn't. I'm not sure if he spotted that one of my (many) naughty boys had a pen lid up his nose during his observation. I was silently mouthing dire threats at him across the classroom until he removed it. At least the inspector wasn't in the room when 2 of my boys were sword fighting with rulers.

Hi MJ,

Yes, I've submitted my application (and suspect I'm the only one) to cover the DHT's maternity leave.

We've got a long weekend (Good Friday and Easter Monday) and then got our Spring break a couple of weeks after that, which I think is much better - stops it being an enormously long summer term. It's also quite unusual to be in school during Holy Week, so we're covering a unit on Easter art, visited our neighbouring school's Catholic chapel to look at their Stations of the Cross and have our parish priests in to take assemblies all week. Thursday's INSET, so tomorrow I'll let my class spend their 'marble time' playing 'foxes and hens' in the school grounds, with easter eggs!  Cheesy

What's 'marble time'? And how do you play 'foxes and hens' with (or without) Easter eggs? I've bought some foil-covered hollow choc eggs for my class but I'm not sure what to do with them.

Hysterical laughter in the staffroom afterwards is usually how we cope with all the things they get up to! Actually, I was struggling not to laugh this afternoon during my RE lesson when the children were making what were supposed to be tasteful Easter cards with a cross in the middle and pretty Spring flowers and chicks etc to decorate. One of the girls drew 2 rabbits heads and wrote 'Playboy' next to each one... I don't think she was trying to be funny.

Our classes earn marbles from their teachers for good behaviour, special efforts etc. Each one equates to 4 minutes. KS1 classes have their 'marble time' or 'goldentime' as I think it's known in some schools, every Friday afternoon. KS2 classes tend to have them once a half-term or term. Sometimes they choose to watch a film or have an extra art session or ICT suite slot, but they've opted for 'fox and hens': one child is the mother hen, three are foxes and the rest are hens. The hens accompany mother hen into the school grounds and choose a hiding place for her, where she waits with an empty basket; the other hens then return to the starting base. All this time, the foxes are hidden away in the classroom. On my whistle, the hens all come and collect a chocolate egg from me and head off into the grounds, their aim being to deliver their egg to the mother hen. Within a minute, the foxes are released. Their job is to collect as many eggs as they can and to locate the mother hen. If they catch a hen, the hen must surrender his or her egg. Of course, the wise foxes will try to follow the hens instead, hoping they will lead them to the mother hen. Wise hens, however, if they suspect they're being followed, can lead them on a wild goose chase, if that isn't mixing metaphors...  Wink Lots of fun and we get to eat the eggs at the end!
