You do know the one about the vicar who lost his bike don't you?...

A

Can't say I do, but let me guess: possibly he had forgotten he had left it chained up to one of the stations of the cross, and in any case couldn't remember which one. Am I close?  Shocked

Baz

Not quite Baz, he couldn't remember where he had left it until he started giving his sermon on infidelity... then he remembered where he had left his bike. Grin

When in doubt, wash.

Just been to collect a lovely big old pine chest of drawers - which has cost me nothing, on our local Freecycle. It just needs a clean and a polish. I was very lucky as the man told me he'd been inundated with emails. The person he'd offered it to earlier today hadn't turned up. I'd replied very late (as I have opted to receive a digest of the offers, hours later than those who receive them individually), but as I live nearby he then offered it to me on condition I picked it up immediately! Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

Hello all,

I don't post that much on these boards, though I do enjoy reading them and enjoy the views of a number of members  Smiley

But I did post a long while back on this thread when I had just finished my book. A number of posters were extremely warm and supportive about this and I haven't forgotten that. Though I doubt they'll recall, a couple of members asked that I post when I'd heard more. Well, I've heard more. After a long old slog, the book has finally been contracted! I can't say how happy and relieved I am. Thanks to all those who so kindly showed an interest.

Congratulation, ernani.
I am so pleased that your book has been accepeted by a publishing house. I wish there will be more books to follow this one, though you probably can not think about it now.
We should have a big party to celebrate our member of the board achievement. Cheers.

I find this board very helpful too.
Thanks for providing a good boost for us because it such a joy to know that people on the board are doing well.

That's great news, Ernani. You must be thrilled, and rightly so.

Sixteenth century philosophy and literature you said. Is there now a title?

But no swimming today. Windy!!

Sorry to hear that, Martle. But it shows an admirable concern for your fellow swimmers which I wish others would emulate.

George, would you please get round here NOW and help me to extract the bits of spluttered muesli from between my computer keys. Otherwise I shall have no alternative but to inform the Mods that you have chosen once again to ignore Board Rule 6.

Actually I'm not that happy. My dining table (with the leaves extended) is completely covered with accounts stuff I have to try to clear today. The plumber who was coming to fix my toilet at 11 phoned to say he was running late (as I now will be, so to speak).

And there's my hosital parking story, which members with long memories for inconsequential trivia may recall. On June 16th, under threat of legal action, I paid up and my bank account was duly debited. A couple of weeks later I had a solicitor's letter demanding that I pay (an increased amount of course). I wrote back to say there had obviously been some mistake. Instead of a reply I received today another and nastier solicitor's letter. So I phoned the lawyer and asked them if they would perhaps consider backing off in view of the fact that the payment had been made seven weeks ago. They checked with the parking contractor and phoned me back to say yes, sorry, the payment had been made but they hadn't been informed. Could this be, I wondered to myself, some mischievousness on the part of the person at the parking company to whom I had sent a withering letter (qv)?  Angry

However. In the midst of all this I received an OK for the proposed instrumentation of my upcoming work from the commissioning people at the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. Wagner tubas and a Fender Rhodes electric piano!  (and piles of other stuff of course)

Knowing how things work (or not) here, I'd put it down to the usual incompetence.  On the other hand, there's often a lot of truth in the phrase 'just because you're paranoid that doesn't mean they're not out to get you'...

Good news!  I take it this isn't the same theatrical musical vocal work with practically no orchestra you mentioned on the Minotaur thread?  Wink
