About two years ago I began subscribing to the podcast of an articulate and humane American politician of part African origin.  It was entitled:

Senator Barack Obama's podcasts on issues affecting Illinois, the nation and the U.S. Senate.

He tended to end with folksy references to how the Chicago Red Sox were doing, but otherwise I was interested.

There have been no new podcasts for over a year.

I am happy that today I can delete the link.

I always like backing a winner, as when BAL choses a recording I have got.

On a happy note, I've just remembered that I've been asked to conduct the university choir for Sir Christémas in the carol service.
I haven't conducted a full choir since last carol service, and it's a carol I enjoy conducting!
Plus, I've just found that one of my course texts for this PGCTLHE is available free of charge on the internet.

I was going to say that the premiere of Britten's St Nicolas was at Lancing College, but it was at Aldeburgh a few weeks before the Lancing performance. It was written for Lancing's centenary in 1948 - Peter Pears's old school. There's a brass plaque commemorating him on the seat he occupied in the choir stalls. He described Lancing as "a very heaven". Much as I enjoyed my school, I can't say I felt like that!

The look of Lancing College chapel from the A27 reminds me of Colditz. Or Gormenghast. Almost as much as Roedean School does, about the same distance the other way along the coast from Brighton.

I have to judge their annual music festival/competition in Feburary!  Shocked

I've just submitted all three elements of module 1 of my PGC TLHE online!
Phew.
I'll also go in tomorrow to submit them in hard copy, just to be on the safe side, but I'm glad to have got them out of the way.
Now I've got time to organise these parts for my ensemble piece, to wash up, and to make my packed lunch before crawling into bed!

Apologies in advance for any perceived plug, but I might as well counter this by declaring that my Vocalise-Reminiscenza for piano is based upon Rakhmaninov's Vocalise and may be thought (although I most sincerely hope not) to parallel this rather embarrassing model-and-copy relationship...

How does a piano vocalise though? It can't even sustain except by cheating! ...

I like that austere look. It has a certain amount of beauty in it. There are other worse buildings out thefre in this world! You judge the music festival there, martle? Hmmm, good luck with that! Why not come along to the christmas concert there?

EARLY MORNING HIGH!
Hi!
I've always admired Lancing College Chapel from the back of a car.
Oooh. Pretty....

I've never seen Lancing, to my knowledge.  The RC cathedral at Arundel looks impressive from the road at the bottom on the hill.

Beauvais is the tallest Gothic interior.  There is no tower and the nave feel down as too tall, but the choir still manages to dominate the town and country.  Gillian Weir recorded Messaien's La Nativite on the organ there.

Gillian Weir recorded Messaien's[sic] La Nativite on the organ there.

She did? Are you sure you are not mixing her up with Jennifer Bate? Wink

Gillian Weir used the Frobenius organ of Aarhus cathedral for her set, IIRC:
