Hi Mary,

Actually it's the Amateur Entomologists Show but they allow all sorts of invertebrates!  It's much easier to say "bug show" than "amateur entomologists society" show!   Cheesy

Incidentlaly, I have friends who collect shells and bugs although I can't see the attraction of insects myself.  It's a bit strange to walk past cabinets of dead Tarantulas and things and last time I went (when we lived in Suffolk and it was at Kettering) it was quite scary!

Lynn and I visited the Glandford Shell about 2 years ago while on holiday in Norfolk, it's nice to visit if you are a tourist but if you are a serious conchologist, it is a little disappointing.  If you go, and a woman called Susan is still in charge, ask her if she ever got a Golden Cowrie.

At the risk of summoning forth the resident heterophobe, it's bad enough extending a"bug show" to other insects, let alone offering stalls to molluscs' housing enthusiasts. What is this country coming to?  Angry

[Re. "molluscs'", I edited the message in adance of the original posting, to remove a misplaced apostrophe, but forgot to put the apostrophe back, in the right place.]

I'm definitely not a serious conchologist, so I'd probably like it. I may go in the summer.

Isn't the internet a wonderful thing? Jonathan, I'm sure that you're at your show by now, but I've just managed to identify a large-ish (12 cms) decorative shell that has been around all my life, and all my mother's too. It's a cypraecassis rufa or Red Helmet shell:

I always wondered what it was. It lives in my bathroom.

Oops! I was under the impression it was the enthusiasts housing the molluscs' housings. (English is not my first language, can you tell? My first language is complete nonsense).

The baby water lilies are beginning to grow in my "pond", a large terracotta dish. Growing things is very soothing.

They don't look like this yet. I think they're pink.

I love water lilies. Mary, your posts usually make me so excited. Here are tropical water lilies.

Excellent - I sold one like that this very afternoon (it was a very small one though, only about 80mm...)
Really tired now, it was a long day.  May post more later (after Doctor Who - if it's on because i see that they may have to reschedule it so they can show a game consisting of 22 vastly overpaid, stupid, brainless morons kicking a ball about on the grass)  I'd rather eat my own foot.
