Err... hello Wink  I've only just seen this thread - not been around much this weekend as you might imagine (though I did check into the forum a few times from my phone).  Posted a few things on TOP about the Last Night because it's over there that the voice of reason regarding LNotP tends to be more urgently needed  Grin

Gosh, I wasn't expecting such a response on here to my fifteen two minutes of fame, cos I didn't think any of you would be watching!  I was rather concerned when the two ladies from the BBC who recruited us before the concert outlined the sort of questions Suzy was likely to ask us - it all sounded like it was going to be very LNotP focused rather than Proms-focused and I didn't want to be seen on national television as somebody who "goes to the Last Night" without that being put into context.

In the end, Mark got the constructive questions (which I thought he answered very articulately) and I was left with a single question to which I wasn't prepared to give a straight answer - unsurprisingly, I'm not prepared to share with a nation of BBC1 viewers the specifics of getting into the front couple of rows at LNotP, though the answer I gave was perfectly accurate.

Thanks for compliments on the frock - I like it too Smiley  You didn't see my lovely turquoise shoes and handbag, but they were nice too!  Somehow the four-inch heels didn't start hurting until afterwards  Shocked

As for that bad pun - I think it was originally made on my Welcome thread last year Grin

Ruth, you don't have a sister called 'Kiri' with the middle initial 'A' by any chance?

I hadn't seen that, Ron.  The pun first occurred to me when I discovered that Ruth herself is a soprano.  I apologise anyway for the plagiarism - unwitting though it was.  Did you, by any chance, also point out that 'Ruth Elleson' is almost a tautology - or should I be seeking out my coat at this point?

Gosh, I wasn't expecting such a response on here to my fifteen two minutes of fame, cos I didn't think any of you would be watching!

I confess I wasn't, Ruth; but as soon as I saw the thread I clicked on the link.  Your few minutes of fame is all I've actually heard of the Last Night. I normally listen to the first half but I was visiting a sick relative and the hospital flatly refused to put back the visiting hours so I could catch the first half and miss the second!  I've recorded the radio broadcast but haven't listened to it yet. I'm not sure I want to after reading some of the comments on Bryn Terfel's performance.  I thought you and Mark were good ambassadors.  How many others did they interview for the programme?

I'm a mezzo actually, HtoHe, but I'll forgive you Wink

Suzy Klein interviewed two other people just after the BBC2 broadcast went off to the parks for the interval - a middle-aged married couple from Harrogate whose children had bought them season tickets as a present.  I don't know them very well but had chatted to them a number of times earlier in the season in the queue and in the Arena (at earlier concerts they'd tended to go for the seats at the far rear of the Arena).  Their daughter lives in South London and has been putting them up overnight whenever they came down for a concert.

I seemed to get caught in camera shot a LOT this year... I watched a couple of bits of the broadcast back (both halves) and spotted some other boardmembers as well - spatny was visible in shot during the first of the audience interviews (though I won't identify him in case he doesn't want me to) and my mum alerted me to the lovely close-up which Lady_DHS (who was standing next to me) got during the National Anthem Smiley

The thought that "we have a poster called Ruth" did flit across my mind during the interview but I didn't seriously consider it might really be you, Ruth until I read this thread.

For some reason I pictured you as being older  Embarrassed

Anyway, I'm off now - going to see Don Giovanni at the ROH this evening (and, for my sins, STANDING, which I could do without after the Evening of Eight Hours in Four-Inch Heels the other night)

I didn't notice the name, and I'd always imagined you (vaguely) with dark hair. Funny how one gets these ideas based on nothing. Nice to see you! I looked on iPlayer.

It could have been me - but I had the sense to run away when the researchers came working their way down the rail...

I've seen one picture of Ruth before, taken at a meet-up, but I must say on tv I thought she looked very pretty and very elegant!

Gosh, David, no offence man, but given the way Ruth looked on my TV, I'm glad it wasn't.  Tongue

Haven't seen this video clip. Must try and watch it.

Thank you, Anna and Martle - I'm all embarrassed now! Smiley  Can't post a blushing smiley as the one we've got on here has a sad face, and I'm very flattered.  Martle's comment in particular has really put a smile on my face  Kiss

Thanks, bbm Kiss

Given some of the unnecessary and downright offensive comments one tends to hear, especially over at TOP, about people who stand at the front at the Proms (and some of those who comment think it acceptable to be ten times as offensive about those at the front for the Last Night Sad) frankly I'm ecstatic simply to have come across as a reasonably normal human being who loves going to concerts...
