Edgard Varese seen here with John Shirley-Quirk working on an electronic bass-baritone, a scheme subsequently abandoned after a series of complaints from the Musicians Union.

Plans for a robotic soprano were however too far advanced to shelve.

I'm sorry, I know, I always haul out my Rotwang whenever a picture of Varèse comes up. More than anything it's probably to do with the fleeting electro-Varèse resemblances in Martin Matalon's music for Rotwang in his soundtrack for Metropolis which I've played a couple of times. I might get over it. Or not.

No need to feel you should, Mr S.

"...for there is in Rotwang all that life can afford."

Don't think too hard about that one.

Nice one George!

I just can't get over the fact that RVW is getting married to Desmond Olivier Dingle from the National Theatre of Brent.
