With Andy's last pic in mind (the worm), see if this rings any bells for anyone:
Aha, 'The Worm That Turned'. How reassuring to know that the young Pace's formative years weren't all reading Adorno and Busoni practice

hh, may be I do know your friend. He is from Cork I think. Once I turn pages for him. He has a friend here, conductor here. I think this friend of yours is learning Russian and he is of Polish origins (at least the name is Polish). Sometimes he writes articles in music magazine (I only read the more popular one here in Ireland). Did I guess right?
Yes you did! It is a small world!

Yes, the world is small. This mountain is very tall and big. Some people managed to climb it. I think your friend is very interesting person. I missed meeting him when he last visited here, but I might still meet him next time. I also know Roth, composer. I met him and even played his piece. He is a good composer.

I think this is Nabokov and his wife. They also immigrated.

I don't know if Nabokov went as far as Japan, though he immigrated to the USA. So this picture of gamelan is for those who don't know what it is. It looks like some pots and pans for cooking to me.
