Christmas is coming
The shops are full of that,
Please pay some money for a load of tat!
If you haven't got a credit card
A debit card will do,
If you haven't got a debit card
Then God stuff you!

There's always Tom Lehrer -

Christmas time is here, by golly,
Disapproval would be folly,
Deck the halls with hunks of holly,
Fill the cup and don't say when.
Kill the turkeys, ducks and chickens,
Mix the punch, drag out the Dickens,
Even though the prospect sickens.
Brother, here we go again!

Good grief. Mid-October and the Scrooges are out already! They seem to come earlier each year, don't they.

cause/effect...

Having xmas appear in the shops earlier each year is what causes scrooginess!  I think I posted somewhere here, I went to Selfridges in early/mid August to get my suitcase repaired... more than six months before 25 December I'll point out... and their Christmas Shoppe was up and running!  That's just wrong! Bah humbug!

Absolutely Strina - you took the very words right out of my mouth.

A friend and I have a mini festival for the first day we see Christmas decorations (quintost - don't ask) and it's definitely getting earlier.   Angry

I just pretend that I can't see it e.g. mince pies in the shops three weeks ago. Same with Easter Eggs appearing on Boxing Day (ok that last one was a slight exaggeration)  Wink

With profuse apologies to Ezra Pound (and an unknown medieval writer)...

Christmas is icumen in,
Lhude sing Goddamm.
Tainteth gob and traineth mob
With how the shops us slam!
Sing: Goddamm.
Rippeth hard and swippeth card
For tat bought for a scam.
Flounceth toffers, freezeth coffers,
Lhude sing Goddamm!
Goddamm, Goddamm,
Well fleeceth thu, Goddamm,
Ne swik thu naver nu.

PES
Sing Goddamm nu, sing Goddamm
Sing Goddamm, sing Goddamm nu...

The Retailers' Carol Book

Number 33

God stir you, manic retailers, let nothing you delay
From setting out your festive fare of tat and tired cliché:
Which must be done ten weeks (at least) ahead of Christmas Day,
Maximising your profit and joy, profit and joy,
                                          Maximising your profit and joy.

I'm glad to see that I will be keeping a truly alternative Christmas.

Oh come all ye shoppers
Trudging round the market
Oh come ye and buy all this tat and the gunge
Come and amaze us
Buy the stuff that's worthless
Oh let us take your money
Oh let us take your money,
Oh let us take your money, and then b***** off.
