I love your fellows taste, A. it may be better to leave him alone. A friend of mine told me a long time ago: you are not joined by the hip, let him do what he likes.

Ho "A".  Well!  I'm with your partner all the way with pop music.  I hate its cheapness and if you want a real education get onto the pop channels on Sky.  What a load of  **/><//%##.  I am "sound inclined" and find TV adverts with the thumping, crashing noise just about intolerable.  I also cannot stand the beeping and thumping intro to News 24 and the background loop of noise when the news presenters are giving a summary.  It's unnecessary.  I won't go into a shop where muzak is playing 'cos it makes me really irate.  I have never understood why we are supposed to like "pop" with its tunelessness, its harmonic desert, its limited form and lack of any development, its performers lack of vocal quality.  I can't stand electric guitars and pop percussionists.  Saxophones I hate.  Well "A".  How about that for a rant?
Cheers to you and your "fella".

Dear Agonised A,

In the same way that a horse led to water can't necessarily be induced to drink, so intentional exposure to apparently alien music may not always have the desired effect. As with all things (and excuse me for assuming that this was already a universal feminine wile), it seems always useful to let a stubborn man believe that any change in taste was totally his decision all along, so rather than harp on one particular band or style of music, accidental exposure to a wider range, by osmosis as it were, might help him find a way in on his own.  The wider the range you introduce, the more chance you have of finding something that overcomes his resistance; it will be a rather grudging acceptance at first, but one day you'll find him whistling or humming something he's heard which is starting to worm its way in, and from little acorns....

Never! I fear you are "Baching" up a completely wrong tree here. So sorry A - but you know (I'm sure) he has the best intentions at heart.

Two important things must be remembered:

a) nobody is going to die,

and

b) he's really no snob.

Ho "A".  This is an example of what "pop" music can do to an intelligent cat.  Beware!.

Dear A,

I think you should hand him over to me, as we would obviously get on famously Smiley

It's nothing to do with snobbery.

Do you let your own feller "do what he likes"? If so, when are you next in London?

'My lovely partner is perfect in every way'

Hey Baz... remember I said this. I love 'his' music too.

I would just like to say I don't listen to ANY 'musak' - only old favourites which are of good quality. We, my partner and I , enjoy playing Bach together... at least we did  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Cry

Two people can not have the same interests. It is important that some core interest and outlooks are the same.
I go to concerts myself sometimes, if he doesnot want to. Also I am glad he doesnot make me watch endless football games. Is it better to leave each other alone and enjoy somethings separately?

It is not good to be a control freak. One should control where it matters, like don't go with dirty shoes after I just washed the floor or something.
It is nice to meet, I love you all.

There's nothing dirty about playing Bach at 2.30 is there?
