Angry Just broken a tooth. A molar that's already been repaired after losing a bit of it last year. It might have to come out now.  Cry  I'd been enjoying some Bombay Mix, crunching the rather hard chickpeas very carefully on the other side as I'm always wary of biting anything hard with this patched up tooth.  Angry

I think I've got a hacker.  Strange but nothing has shown up on my antivirus software, adware or Spydoctor.  All the same I went into my emails the other day and the strangest page came up.  I've printed it off and hope to show it to someone who knows about these things.  Anyone out there?  It's a computer program.  About halfway down it says "This is a hack put in place so that persistancy files are picked from the regular html directory".

It's scary and I'm not sure what to do about it.  Any ideas anyone?

Apparently, one of the biggest causes of damaged teeth comes from cheese sandwiches.
Everyone's more cautious when eating apples and such-like but nobody expects to suffer dental trauma from a cheese sandwich.
(Over the last 24 months, my Mum's done just that, had a conflict with pizza (she came of worse) and something else that I forget. My brother had the best story about his teeth: 'It hurt every time I chewed anything, and it got worse and worse over about a month. Then I bit down hard on something and my mouth filled with blood. It really hurt. Two weeks later it was unbearable so I went to the dentist and found out that I had been chewing on a raw nerve for a while.' - it's the fact that he left it two weeks before going to the dentist after his mouth filled with blood! - talk about denial!)

Hi Milly, hope one of the computer whizz-kids reading this can tell you what it means and put your mind at rest - it's probably nothing sinister at all.

I may as well moan about the rain since I'm in this Grumpy room. Our Early Years classes are going for a day-trip to Lyme Park
tomorrow and the weather's going to be awful for them. Such a shame as these little children don't have many/any trips to places like this with their families.  Sad

Milly,

It looks like it might be a Yahoo mail server problem rather than a virus or a hack:  see

Ooh! Thank you!  That is the exact page.  It frightened me to death when I saw it.  I still don't understand these things but so long as it's a Yahoo thing and not a hacker, that's ok.  So glad I mentioned it!  Kiss

I've found that the best thing to do in situations like that (or when unexplained error messages come up) is to google a chunk of the text. One of the great things about the internet is that people seem to be more than happy to share their expertise and experience of things like this. I suppose this is more of something for the happy room, but I've been a bit low on happy for the last couple of weeks, so I'm not sure it matters.

Ah well I didn't think of googling the text.  Brain of Britain here just panicked, thought about it for a bit, did nothing, went out, came back, printed it off and you know the rest.   Grin

Thank you.  I'll do that next time.

Well, you asked here, which is nearly as good as Googling, so don't put yourself down Milly Jones! (do as I say and not as I do)

Programmers will often write something like "this is a hack" in a code comment when they've got a bit of code which does what they want but isn't very "elegant" - hoping to come back to it later and find a "nicer" way of doing things.  It's probably not related to "hacking" at all (which should properly be called "cracking" anyway).

Sad well well well. upon further investigation i find that other family members were "led astray" by asking for remote assistance this afternoon. they thought they were talking to someone they weren't.  Angry Angry Angry Angry. *huff*. That's one feature I won't be keeping enabled.  Sad

better get re-ripping, spose.

Eh?   In any event; horrible news!

increpatio,
How were your family members led astray? May be you can explain so that I will not be caught.

I think it's eruanto who's confused us all ! I don't know how his family members were led astray either but agree it was a "bad thing" that they were.
