What ho Milly!  I've just visited TOP and am ashamed to say that I felt uneasy at some of the postings made there by a few folk who seem to be either intellectual pseuds or merely sad, annoying "members" with an aura of semi-deliberate unpleasantness.  For myself, I think I've only made one posting there this year.  It is not a very attractive place now.
Cheers and regards

HO! S`wave Kiss TOP is really most unpleasant now Sad Belligerence, prejudice and aggression all simmering away nicely. Such a shame. I made a brief post the other day commenting about the ridiculous Modding on the NYO thread and then scarpered back here pronto Shocked I doff my bonnet to those who have clung on, but it's not a place I would like to be anymore Cry

I was just about to agree with S'Wave as well.  Unfortunately the whole BBC MB set up is so vast there is no-one there taking any responsibility for what is being posted.  I think the only Host who ever interacts is Peter on the Jazz MB, and he is a BBC employee.  The Mods are outsourced and obviously have no interest in what is going on and the tone of the place, they just press a few buttons when prodded by the complaint button being pushed.  They don'r read the Threads.

Does anyone remember the Hosts of old - Sylvie, Southendian, Graeme Kaye?

Ah yes. Sylvie with her white coat and clipboard, causing the males to swoon at her feet!  Grin Gosh, she even interacted with the Waffle thread!

What ho Morticiaaa^AAA.  I remember Sylvie, pleasant and friendly.  I think she actually re-started one of the Waffle threads as a New Waffle.  I wonder where she is now.  The modding there is, as you say, ridiculous especially as the BBC should be putting all of its influence behind the NYO.

One thing I'm so often conscious of is how much more dangerous it is for women to walk around alone than dudes: I seem to be able to walk around Dublin at odd hours without so much as the slightest feeling of unease (though I know that I can count myself lucky), so I tend to be internally pretty cavalier about the dangers.  After reading that article though, and walking home around midnight, I was a lot more wary of myself.

Writing as someone who has found himself on the end of aggression around midnight, I remember reading some statistics at the time which indicated that young men are much more likely to find themselves attacked, because the attackers are statistically more likely to be male, and trying to prove something. What is worrying is that when women are attacked, the result tends to be much much worse.

Yet again, all references to The National Youth Orchestra over at TOP have been pulled.

Sorry, does anyone remember, did we not post links to various Concerts?  I am sure there were loads without the links being classified as offensive.  Did not Ower George post some to the Barbican?  Or even to Snorbans?

Oh, and if that bluddy cockerel outside does not stop cock-a-doodle-doing I think I will go and search of him with a sharp knife and a casserole dish.

Grump!

Look what I picked up last night Cheesy Anyone is welcome to post a link to my scan at TOP if they wish but to be honest I don't know why anyone bothers with posting there - although I know a lot of you do - it's like being back in school. See what you can get away with before the prefects put you in detention. I've been to several excellent NYOGB concerts at Symphony Hall so I'm tempted to go next week.

Mort,

Evidently these Concerts are sponsored by The Upper Middle Class.  A total disgrace.

Yours truly,

Nancy Mitford.

Ho dear "Bad Boy of Music".  Cockerels are a *********** nuisance at times, so I wish you luck in your endeavours to silence the annoying cookling of the bird.  Pigeons run them a close second.

I have to attend a two day corporate induction day 'An Introduction to Higher Education' tomorrow.
It has sessions entitled 'Exciting ways to teach'. I am prepared to be excited.
I suppose there are definite pros to this experience: I may actually learn something, it's free board and lodgings (though probably not a free bar), and it's an opportunity to meet intelligent and attractive young things (hmmm danger of developing Lord B tendencies here).
But I can't help feeling that I should be at my desk composing or preparing lectures rather than munching on biscuits and making eyes at my colleagues.

Something I would love to know; do students entering higher ed. these days come in fired with enthusiasm and curiosity? or are they there to practice their "cramming" skills?
