I have an incompetence rant.

The manager of the typing and graphics section at our place.

Hang on, let me emphsise these bits...

The "manager" of the "typing and graphics" section at our place....

was approached by myself at 14 hundred hours, out of breath, with the question "have you guys got helvetica?"

The rest of us haven't for reasons unknown, but I stupidly thought this lot might.  Response:

"The typeface... (duh).....

well....

we did at one point....

no I don't think we have now...

Palatino is quite similar."

I'd just like you now, if you aren't already open-mouthed, to compare helvetica, if you have it, or Arial, which is very similar, to Palatino which, you may note, ISN'T EVEN SANS SERIF.

how EXACTLY did this MORON of a woman get the job?HuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuh?

She can't even spell either - her offical circulars around the building are dire.  Grrrrr!

They might as well be train-of-thought circulars for the sense they make.  Jeez this woman makes me FURIOUS with her generalised idiocy.

Either she was promoted to her Level of Incompetence (cf. The Peter Principle) or she knew somebody. Or, in a worst case, both.

Why not substitute Letraset's Masquerade font? everybody will be so busy trying to figure out what the hell it says they won't notice that it's in the wrong font too.

I've just taken my van (white) into the garage as it's got a coolant leak and I thought I might as well get the MOT done, as it's due at the end of the month, and have it serviced. I got an advisory about bushes on the front suspension last year so they're bound to need doing by now. Hope there's not too much more and that my credit card can take the strain Sad It was pretty dirty so I hurriedly washed it before I took it in, not that cleanliness of the bodywork is on the MOT yet I think.

Leaving all the Palatino business aside, the mind boggles at a typing and graphics office not having access to probably the world's most popular font!

Grrr.  We got to the hospital at noon and registered him in.  Unfortunately he's last on the list!  I stayed until 3 p.m., and he still hadn't gone down to theatre although he was gowned-up,  but then I had to leave him to come and collect the other one from school.  He finishes his piano lesson at 5 so I'll probably have time to give him tea before we have to go back to the hospital.  They're going to ring me when he's ready to come home.  I knew the surgeon because he's operated on me in the past and I had a word with him and the anaesthetist.  It was a shame I had to leave him, especially when he's so nervous.  Sad

Thanks Ron.  I sat there with him for three hours before I had to leave.  I managed to keep him amused and upbeat the whole time but I'm a bit tired now.  Because he couldn't eat or drink anything, I didn't either, because I didn't want to torment him by doing it in front of him.  I was gasping for a drink by the time I got home.   He hadn't had anything from 7 a.m!

Still haven't heard from the hospital about picking him up yet.  Huh  If it gets too late, my son is going to collect him for me.

At least you were allowed to stay with him, which wasn't always the case, even with very young children (I have personal experience of this). Very annoying to have to wait, though, especially with no food or drink. I hope it all goes well.
