I noticed that the NUT thinks so too ...

http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/2008/mar/25/schools.uk11
I'm not sure they can legitimately blame Buzzcocks for that, especially as there doesn't seem to be any cited evidence of a direct influence - it's complete speculation.  Children always have been and always will be astonishingly cruel to each other, regardless of what's on TV.

I still think there's a definite line between participative shows like this and phoning someone out of the blue to make allegations about their granddaughter.

Re. Never Mind the Buzzcocks, I enjoy that programme very much although I too had reservations about the line-up comments.  The only time I didn't like it was when they had a punk rocker on Phil Jupitus' team - can't remember his name - but he was awful.  Everything he said was rude, two-fingered, standing up clutching his genitals - that sort of thing.  He thought he was being really amusing of course.  They showed a clip of him having a row with someone and he was yelling about the sort of star he was "living on the effing edge".  Every other word was effing and then he stamped off, sat down, crossed his legs and sulked.  Roll Eyes  No brains, no vocabulary, no talent.  His music was much the same as any punk music, nothing unusual.  Some I can take but not all.
Oh, was that that idiot who was on celebrity big brother?  He was an absolute joke and didn't seem to have any idea that the joke was on him.  I can't remember his name either.  I never worked out who he was or what band he was in.

Edit: This guy?

I must confess, it's when they have guests like this that Amstell's capacity for the razor sharp put-down really comes into its own.

Further edit: he's called Donny Tourette.  Hm.

Last edit I promise:  Just found this comment "My favourite moment was when he shook his fist at Bill Bailey and said “You’re one of those son.” to which Bill Bailey replied “What a hand?” "  Cheesy

Eeejit.

That's the feller!  About as much talent as Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand.  Same vocabulary, same IQ.  You're right that they were all taking the proverbial and he had no idea at all.  He just thought he was being cool.

I used to watch Buzzcocks quite regularly when Mark Lemarr hosted it but never watch it now. One of the best programmes was when the talentless and unfunny (IMO Wink) Chris Moyles was completely outdone in terms of humour and wit by Phill Jupitus et al and started getting very sulky. Moyles is another in the Woss mould.

I don't think I can agree with the bullying aspect of Buzzcocks, the guests can answer back (or presumably walk out).  I like Simon Amstell, he's razor sharp, and prefer  him to Mark Lemarr.  If the programme gets a bit boorish I just turn it off.

As regards Jonathan Ross, he has vast viewing/listening figures, an obscenely large salary, and although he has made controversial statements, and gone OTT, he has never had an official reprimand or had his wrists officially slapped.  In fact because of that I think he now thinks he is invincible and can do/say whatever he likes.  I am glad he has been suspended and to be honest, he is 47 years old and is behaving still like an adolescent schoolboy.  I wonder what his young teenage children think about this?

Russell Brand's radio programme, the excerpts I have heard, are juvenile and puerile but he can be a brilliant standup comedian.

The "apology" they first broadcast was sickening in its insincerity and again was insulting.  I understand they have now issued new apologies but haven't as yet heard them.

The real question is, as objectionable as these two are, who passed this pre-recorded programme as being suitable for broadcast?

Very funny SH!  I always wonder if you have a secret cache of the weird and wacky.  (No need to answer that)

Well it would appear that Russell Brand has now resigned from his BBC programmes and basically said he is an out of order eejit.  I think that will stand in his favour (he is normally sacked!)

So Jonathan Ross will probably just get a wrap on the wrist then?

I've had mine on 'constant' 24/7 for a while now.  My excuse is the child of course.  The fact I'd do it anyway is neither here nor there!  Wink

We have ours on for a couple of hours in the morning, couple in the evening. Bit more now that the days are getting colder, but never at night. And that's with both a young baby and a chronic lung disease sufferer in the house (two separate people). Always have done. My excuse is that it's extremely expensive and environmentally destructive, especially when jumpers are freely available.

Sorry, Milly, but I don't understand the 24/7 approach to household heating, and it's one of those things that sets me off on a GOR.  Sad

Sorry to make you grumpy, but I ain't changin' mah mind! I'd rather pay for that than smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol- or even food!
 Tongue

Back to this point, apart from my heating energy consumption, I do try and save the planet in other ways. I recycle just about everything.  It's so difficult to please everyone.  I thought I was helping by using my waste disposal unit for cooked food that you can't recycle - but no of course not.  It uses energy so is therefore frowned upon.

What? Only now BBM? I was wearing my fleece back in August! I'm trying not to put my radiators on too often but when I'm wearing 2 fleeces and still cold I put on the heating.
