Your tiny print came out whispered to me, MabelJane. Message gratefully received. No one but us need ever know.

Hey, everyone! MabelJane uses this bilge in her soups!! She'll be calling herslef DeliaJane next!

Actually I used the insides of leftover baked spuds yesterday Tongue Tongue Tongue

I then experimentally fried up the ripped up skins in olive oil with a little salt. They were surprisingly not as inedible as I feared.

I still can't see any tiny print - is it just this pc then?

We've discussed this elsewhere MJ, I think it's something to do with your browser. Firefox only shrinks slightly on my PC - down to about 9pt - but it seems to shrink more for others, so I'm not sure what's going on. This is what your 5pt whispering looks like on my PC:

whereas when I use IE your whispering comes out a lot smaller:

I see.
I used to have at least two mugs of it a day, tea in cereal, ...
Tea in cereal???

I can't even have milk in cereal. It has to be in tea (coffee would do but I don't really like coffee, except in emergencies) - if it's combined with solids I can still taste the milk, and it makes me feel sick. Cry

Aha, sussed it. Within Firefox Tools/Options.../Content/Fonts & Colors/Advanced..., there is a minimum font size, which is set to 10pt for me. If I change this to minimum=none then your whispering appears a lot smaller, probably 5pt, which is what you specified.

I've changed it back to minimum=10pt since anything smaller is illegible on my screen.

Ah but I'm using Opera! Not through choice. Perhaps Firefox will work again now - haven't tried for a while as I've got used to using Opera. But the pc I normally use is out of action so even if I can use Firefox again it wouldn't have all my Favourites/Bookmarks saved. Never mind, lucky to have internet access at all. And anyway, it saves me having to go into quote to read things when some silly poster decides to shrink the words.

I've got Opera but I don't use it so perhaps it's got a similar option? And stop shouting Grin

Getting back to the food, this evening I cooked a lovely pasta dish - scallops with crème fraîche and dill. Melt some butter in a large frying pan, add half a dozen finely chopped spring onions to soften, stirring frequently. Add scallops (cut into quarters) and cook for a couple of minutes, then add a couple of tablespoons of crème fraîche and chopped dill. Cook through for a minute or two, then toss in the cooked pasta (tagliatelle this evening, sadly not homemade today) Also throw in a handful of freshly grated Parmesan and stir before serving, preferably with fresh crusty bread. I think I might add a squeeze of lemon juice next time to give it a bit more 'bite', but a very tasty, quick meal.

Cripes, IGI! Do you make your own pasta on a regular basis? I've tried it. Once. It's one hell of a bother.

Even so, fab-sounding meal! Any good fishmonger you could recommend in or around Winchester? (Sorry, I sound like an old cracked record don't I.)

Not too often, and although it takes a while, it's quite a therapeutic process. I bought a pasta machine last summer (after buying one as a staff gift for our colleague who went to Rome, I thought to myself 'why not treat yourself too?').

Sadly not. There used to be one opposite the Post Office, but that one closed a few years ago now (and the Post Office is going too soon, to be relocated in WHSmith!!). These were good old Sainsbury's Taste the Difference scallops, and remarkably good too.

Think I'm going to have the remaining piece of Pollock tonight baked with dill, garlic and lemon, because it was so nice last time Smiley Perhaps a scattering of broad beans on the side? Purple sprouting would be ideal but, alas, I have none Cry Must make sure I buy some before they disappear. Wonderful stuff.

Last night turned into a reheat of Sunday's stew. Had a friend for dinner so it made more sense to serve up something I was confident would feed both of us!
So tonight it's the chicken breast and mushrooms!

Mr Mash, baked beans, green beans. (And very nice it was, martle! Tongue )

Pancakes for supper - at least they're home-made from scratch!

I started off thinking about cooking the Nigel recipe, but then I looked into the fridge and dreamt up my own.
It's currently sizzling away in a pan with some leeks and mushrooms. In a minute, I'll take the chicken out and throw in a glass of wine and let that bubble away reducing for a little while (all the time mixing in those bits on the bottom of the pan where the leeks and chicken have caught) and then I'll put the chicken back in (having checked that it's actually cooked!).
All served with white and savoy cabbage.
NOM (I hope) x 3.

When I was sorting through my mother's things last year I came across a copy of Town and Around recipes by Zena Skinner (published BBC 1965). Anyone remember her?

Unfortunately I do. I can picture her now though I can't remember anything about her TV appearances. I expect my Mum used to watch her, I certainly wasn't interested in cookery then, even her sort.

No wonder you remember her, Andy - I googled Zena Skinner and this is the image I found:

Zena Skinner was on BBC4 tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She was on Sean Lock's "TV's Believe It Or Not" showing an old chap how to boil an egg or something similar.

If you missed her, she'll be on again about 3-30am.

And she was wearing more clothes than in your picture MJ.
