We've only just returned from football practice and the order I've just been given is bangers, mash, veg and onion gravy.  Right! Better get on with that then. Smiley

After a pretty hellish day at school I'm treating myself to a Waitrose veg curry!

And why not?  Are they good, I have not had one of them.  Sometimes a ready meal is the answer to life's problems.  I see Waitrose are doing Pizza Express buy one get one free, do you think Martle knows this?  Cheesy

Excellent - the veg really do taste fresh and are never overcooked, they still have crunch - except for the potatoes! And now, in my new microwave, only 6 mins to heat up! Most of their Indian dishes are Medium hot but are never too hot for me as they're deliciously spicy but don't set your mouth on fire. We always knew you were a Domestic Goddess, Nigella has nothing on you!

Now, this Christmas Cake - heavy on the marzipan I hope? And light on the icing?  If we send our email addresses to you can we have a slice please?

We do now Grin

I cooked (roasted) some of the pumpkin I got from Tesco. It's a "culinary" as opposed to a "carving" pumpkin, so they say. It looks just like the lantern ones. It tasted awful - I was disappointed! I expected it to be something like butternut squash, or perhaps the pumpkin I had in Australia, which I thought was called blue pumpkin, but I can't find it on Google.

I had some Waitrose curries at a friend's house recently and they were very nice. Certainly not too hot for me, but then I put chilli on everything. I had chana dal and spinach curry tonight, home made of course Cheesy

Has anyone else noticed the increase in price of tinned tomatoes?  Roll Eyes  Napolina used to be 82p, now 98p in Tesco and whopping £1.15 in Somerfields!

I bought a 4 pack of Tesco chopped Italian toms at the start of the month which was 1-62 - they're pretty good I find.

When I'm doing a curry, I use cheapo chopped toms, Sainsbury's were 21p/tin on 16/9.

Btw my home-grown Harlequin toms are absolutely delicious and are still producing reasonably well, wonderful flavour but not too sweet.

The rise in the price of tinned tomatoes has obviously taken a bit of time to percolate through to Brum. In Sainsbury's today their cheapo chopped toms were up to 30p/tin and their better quality ones were £2-12 for a 4-pack Sad The premium ones were something like £2-50 for 4.

I ate dinner at work today (their macaroni cheese was better than usual) but feeling like I shouldn't have. I'm going to make a light dahl tonight with a little rice and hard boiled eggs.

I made a huge bowl of pasta and traditional home-made bolognese sauce with minced steak, mushrooms, onions, mixed herbs and tomatoes.  They scoffed it so fast I don't think it touched the sides!  I had just the pasta with butter and fresh grated parmesan.  For afters they had a few of those mini-chocolate doughnuts from Sainsburys that you buy in a tub, usually 2 for the price of 1.
