The fantail swedes were brilliant, in fact the whole meal was, but then Andy comes up some lentil and spinach dish with yoghurt and lime pickle and I really, really,  fancy that.  I think I will have one week on, one week off vis-a-vis veggie versus carnivore.

My Nan used to make brawn.  I never tasted it because I knew where it came from. But I am not averse to a Bath Chap (that is not a bloke from Bath but the inside of a pig's cheek you understand)

You need a dedicated butcher to get Bath Chaps

(I may yet rephrase that)

There's an episode in some Noel Streatfeild novel where the children are offered brawn, and just can't eat it. I can't remember which book. Most of these things were based on her own childhood experiences.

We keep on seeing pigs' trotters in the stall of the nice farmer from Suffolk at the market.  We hope to buy some when we have worked out what to do with them.

Mary, I was talking this afternoon about childhood memories with a member
when we were poorly and what came up was (not literally I do assure you!) was chicken noodle soup, Heinz tomato soup, hot Ribena, Lucozade and Haliborange.

Don B, my Nan would regularly slurp pig's trotters.   I will get back to you on that.

I've just had a google and Haliborange is still available. Wonder if it's still as mouth puckeringly sour as I remember it? I quite liked it though. Bit like acid drops but tasting of orange.

Tonight, I am roasting a pumpkin with some garlic.
I am having this with reheated macaroni cheese and some steamed cabbage.
It's going to be rather wonderful.

The boys had roast lamb, roast potatoes, broccoli, carrots and cauliflower, with two of those little Marks and Spencer chocolate puddings with chocolate sauce to follow.

AHEM.

Member Dough mentioned the two fine dinners that were consumed yesterday.
Allow me to elaborate.
We ate the first in a pub, when Member _now managed to join us. I (and Stuart) had a steak and ale pie. Exceptional pastry. I saw that Ron had a lentil and spinach (?) lasagne but I can't remember what time had. Then we had pudding Smiley. Ron and time both had a fruit pie (though I forget which fruit), Stuart abstained, and I had a chocolate brownie pudding thing with custard. Then we walked a bit, supped some tea, then headed to the Bow Bar for another pint. Our evening repast was conducted at an East African/Mediterranean restaurant I've been eyeing for a little while. I had a lamb dish with so much lamb I had to ask for a doggy bag. Later on I will buy a pitta bread and some salad - tomorrow's lunch is sorted. Ron had a smoked haddock dish with a papaya sauce. I have to say that, on the menu, it looked like a dish that would either be wonderful or disastrous. He said it was lovely, so I intend to discover this for myself soon.

Mushroom and spinach, hh: extremely tasty: t had the beef lasagne, IIRC. The fruit pie was Apple and Blackberry, and again encased in the finest of pastries.

The papaya with the evening's fish was cooked in coconut milk and oyster sauce - a rather smoky combination which my tastebuds had not previously encountered, but are keen to try again....
