Tonight: gnocchi with a tomato, pepper, bacon and mushroom sauce. Just reducing the sauce down and I'll serve it with curly kale.

Btw, though, when did you put that petit Nattiez teaser on the bottom of your posts? Only noticed it this morning.
Late last night! Tonight: gnocchi with a tomato, pepper, bacon and mushroom sauce. Just reducing the sauce down and I'll serve it with curly kale.

Tonight is going to be something to do with liver, bacon and sausage with rice. Might have to find an onion from somewhere. Discovered that my stock of onions had all gone bad - they turned out to be Tesco value not the cooking onions in which I usually trust. I'll have to find out if the local greengrocers shuts early on a Wednesday.

Cripes! hh, do you live in 1956? Do places where shops close early once a week still exist?? <ersatz urban shock-horror>

I misread that as the logical greengrocer's, hh. Would it be logical for them to shut early on a Wednesday?

Glad to see the Campaign for Real Shops is having some effect. Although I have found that admitting to having no television produces gasps of unbelief, I have never dared own up to hardly ever shopping in a supermarket. It would probably sound so elitist, like Gwendolen in The Importance saying she has never seen a spade (It is obvious our social spheres have been widely different.)

The answer was that it does shut early on a Wednesday afternoon. I'll just have to do without the onion! Worse things happen at sea usw

Chicken thigh, boned and griddled and then topped with a knob of butter and a splash of balsamic vinegar.

I've more or less been living off Mary C's panzanella for the last few weeks, summer or no summer. It's a wonderful discovery. You would be amazed how much basil a chap can get through in a month if you are as reckless with it as I am. Today's lunch was Mary's Panzanella with Anchovies a la Martle. Perfect .

That's very ungentlemanly, George! What do you expect Mary to live off while you're doing that? ... Just found the following article which I thought may be of interest in this room: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/18/dining/18mini.html?ei=5087&en=1bf683d6a283240f&ex=1201579200&excamp=mktat2&pagewanted=print
