Morticia emerges, coughing and spluttering, from the Soup Archives. Pausing briefly to brush a stray cobweb from her hair.
YO ! Incs. I said it might take a while. Here is the tomato and chickpea soup recipe .....
Fantastic. You're a dear! *Much* appreciated (how much? I'll let you know that after I've tried it out...). I`ve never got as far as adding the pasta because it`s a pretty filling soup with just the chickpeas.
You're one of these people who eats as they go along? Go for it, incs!
I will! Ligeti festival over here taking up a good bit of my weekend but on Tuesday I think I might be able to pencil in some soup....

Enjoy, incs! Both Ligeti and, hopefully, the soup All this soup talk has got me in, umm, soup mode There was a very fine looking cauli at the local shop, so it`s into the pot with it along with an assortment of root veg (not forgetting the celery). Now burbling away quietly on the stove. (sniffing the air emoticon) Ah, soup!

Soup. I always feel very Mother Earthish, yet virginal, when I make soup. Unfortunately it makes my nose run So I never choose soup for those romantic moments ........ Will you pop that in the blender Mort or leave it chunky? I've been picking at yesterday's leftovers so will have to improvise to bulk it out. I could do with some garlic bread and a bottle of vino, but no chance of that.

I`ll do a bit of both, Anna. Blend some of it and then chuck it back in the pot. Even though it means more washing up. Just as I`ve managed to impose order on Hells Kitchen. Heavy sigh.

It seems a contradiction of terms. Soup should be warming, filling and hearty, why not just stick it in a glass and call it a smoothie? But then I have never lived in Andalusia either.

That`s just reminded me of a memory from many moons ago. I went out on the first date with a rather stunning looking chap. We went to see a film (The Night Porter) and then went for a meal. I ordered Spag Bol Sigh. I seem to remember years later reading that that is something not to order unless you know the man very well. Sigh. I still enjoyed it though!

I have also never lived in Andalusia but I do remember with great fondness eating one day in Perth (the Australian one) a cold cucumber and apple soup which had a light drizzle of sesame oil on the top and came with a couple of prawns. Or maybe they were spring rolls with prawns in them. That seems a bit more likely. I think one of the things differentiating a soup from a smoothie is whether it needs to be enjoyed by the spoonful. Whether its textures should be all mixed up or capable of being singled out by an attentive spoon for mixing at will one mouthful at a time. That sort of thing.

An attentive spoon. Now, is that the spoon assuming the attentive role or the handler of the spoon being the attentivee? Or are you coming the raw prawn Mort, The Night Porter. Dirk Bogarde and Charolotte Rampling. Remember it well. I don't think I had Spag Bol after that, I think I had something completely different ....
