You might not believe this, Bryn, but I received the email after I posted the question and was unable to open the attachment. So I'm seeing the programme for the first time ! I don't know who the performers are either.

I do believe you, autoharp, I had some trouble opening it too. When I saw it had a "dat" suffix, I thought I'd try Open Office, and it worked straight away. I suppose MS Office might do the job, too, but I don't use that. The Windows asociations feature can be quite a pain sometimes.

(Off topic to Bryn and Autoharp - I had one of those winmail.dat things recently; a nasty by-product of Outlook apparently  Angry. Anyway, discovered this natty bit of free software for Macs that works a treat: http://www.joshjacob.com/macdev/tnef/)

The Fantasy Sonata's a lovely thing.

Hope you all have a lovely time. Steer clear of wandering toothpicks.

I always think it is bizarre that Ireland said the first phrase could be played an octave lower - anyone contemplating this piece is surely prepared to risk the opening! I've never heard anyone take this option (quite rightly!)
