I'm feeling uptight because it is now April, and therefore only about a month now until my beloved home and garden have to go on the market...

EEEeeek  !

Dear Jan, I am thinking of you. Having just been through a move and change of life I know how difficult it all is. I can only sympathise, although my circumstances were completely different (... going to a lovely man.....)  it is still very emotionally hard .

I can only say that soon all will be well, you will feel so much better soon when your new life pattern is determined. Hang in there !

My new life is wonderful. I am so lucky.

Thanks everyone for your good wishes.  What will be will be.  I'm going to give it my "all" in any event and I am a fighter, generally speaking, for what I believe is right.

Jan, so sorry for what you're about to go through.  Deepest sympathies.  x

Richard, are you very apprehensive about bugs then? (Sorry Bryn - I do of course mean creepy crawlies).

I don't want to minimise the trouble that worryiong can bring, but it really is pointless.

I'm very fortunate in that I seem psychologically incapable of worrying and to my knowledge have never lost sleep because of it. I wish everyone could be like that cos I know some who worry a lot and it can be very distressing.

bws as usual

S-S!

I don't worry as much as I used to, but I don't see how it's possible to avoid it entirely if you have problems. I often think of W H Auden's lines,

In headaches and in worry,

Vaguely life leaks away.

(from As I Walked out one Evening, one of my favourite poems. That tends to make me try to stop worrying!

Did you catch this on R4 this morning, Mary?

Accidental Beauties of Silly Songs

Best-selling author Alexander McCall Smith explores WH Auden's fascination with music and song. He looks at Auden's collaboration with Benjamin Britten on cabaret songs and the musical Paul Bunyan, as well as his libretto for Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress.

Including interviews with Stephen Spender's widow Lady Natasha Spender, the poet Peter Porter, archive of Stravinsky and commentary from Auden himself.

It should be on Listen Again.

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

Yes, I heard it - most interesting, except that Peter Porter never fails to irritate me. Somebody told me it was on, otherwise I would't have noticed, probably.

WHY has my avatar changed without my permission? It was new, to go with my new computer, done by my son who knows about these things. V. v. annoying. Will it change back?

Not sure if we ever got a definitive answer to the disappearing avatar question but there is a thread on the Anouncements board where Michael and John address the issue. That may help you Mary.

So far, this year seems to have been so very difficult for so many people that I know and, although I don`t actually `know` people here, I include those of you who are feeling battered at the moment.

Friends of mine seem to be reeling from one emotional thumping to another and the best that we can all  do is to attempt to listen and support eachother, whether here or in the non-cyber world. I suspect that it is possible to be rather more open here, than we may be with friends/family. It is good to see that such feelings are treated with care and respect.

Mort, that is one of the remarkable things about this MB (and the old one 'over there').   Smiley

eek! I have recital to do tonight. my first (sort of) full length one. It's in a teeny little church, and the piano is a Yamaha upright. I'm not sure how playing Rachmaninoff on it will go! The piano tends to rock quite a bitty. Still, I'm listening to some enlivening music, so that should help a bit.

As I was told James Bowman once said, "They're not paying for you to be nervous". Although that doesn't quite go because they're not paying full stop.

Adrenalin is a wonderful thing ! Have an enjoyable time.

You might even meet a new friend tonight. Everyone you meet there is a potential friend, so smile, be interested in them, ask them how they enjoyed your recital, HAVE FUN !

I've got a good feeling about tonight for you....

Thanks Jan.   Smiley

Apparently when one really gets into a recital and just plays, one feels like they're flying!
