Good work, John.

Maybe a nice picture of Roger Wright would be good for the Suggestions board though.

Looks nice, John (much better without images on the Recent Posts, which was bugging me a bit). It wouldn't be possible to size the images for threads so they could sit alongside - rather than below - the thread title and description, would it? Would make for less scrolling to get down to the bottom of the home page ...

Great stuff John!
(Although there's something about the guy in the photo for the Suggestions board that makes we want to slap him round the chops.)  Wink

He's thinking! By the way the photo is NOT of me  Smiley

RB, Roger Wright .... now there's an idea. It does say in the BBC Terms of Use that we can use any BBC image off their website so long as not for commercial purposes.....

That is what I tried first but since the title/descriptions are different lengths they  looked a mess, but I'll try again and see if I can 'align' each image to the right of the field.

Thanks

t_i_n,

I've looked at this and yes some space and scrolling effort can be saved putting the images to the right of the description text (the title text is a separate field so is not useful).

So taking everyone's comments on board and swotting up on my HTML :

1. I've made it so ONLY the homepage shows the new images

2. I've stretched most of the images to make them 135 pixels wide for a consistent look

3. I've aligned all the images down the middle of the page to make them more easily clickable (they each are a link to their board's messages)

John

Wonderful! How bloody refreshing to have someone in charge so keen to maintain and improve this site - and I should include Michael in that homily. Thank you.

Makes a great change from , er, ... <bleats on endlessly>

Thanks martle,

This place does sometimes become a time-consuming hobby for me. My missus and my bank account will tell me there's something more useful I could be doing!

The photos I've used on the homepage images were gathered together in a bit of a rush a couple of days ago. I'd be very glad to change any of them if anyone has better quality relevant images. They need to be shrinkable or clippable to, preferabaly, 135 x 85 size. I can do the clipping if anyone sends me an interesting photo.

For exampe I think the Opera image looks more like a scene from Eastenders than from Carmen   Cheesy

Hi tony, yeah you'd think with all the lovely lady members we have here there would be some nice avatars  Cool

I was round at a friend's today and he has a nice big new monitor, 20" screen. On his monitor he sees so much more of a webapge than I do on my old 15" screen, e.g. after posting a message I always have to remember to scroll down to see if there's a Warning someone else has posted......

Anyway, on my friend's large screen our forum homepage looks OK except that those images I added do look a bit small, whereas on my old monitor they look a good size (you can see what they are and they are OK for clicking on). I won't make them bigger unless there are lots of folks out there who think they are too small.

Hi,

I mentioned elsewhere that some people are wondering if the recent slowness of the page-opening on this foum might be due to all the images I've added this week. I think the slowness started before I loaded all those images, but anyway after Easter Monday when the host may be working normally, if the speed of using this forum has not improved, I'll take the images off and see if things then improve.

I get the impression that a lot of members tend to sign on and just navigate from the 'recent posts' link and take it from there, and probably miss most of the visual delights that I've been adding  Roll Eyes

If that is the case then many of you will have missed the new faces on here at:

http://r3ok.myforum365.com/index.php?board=34.0

If you don't know who they are just pass the mouse over the photos.....  Smiley

Oh my God , you're right, he does look a bit scary.

Mind you, so do I sometimes. I've just had a No 6 haircut, hopefully will look ok when the general public see me again on Tuesday  Shocked

If we must have RW on this board ( I can see Richard's angle in squaring up to the part-architect of our dissent)
could we not decorate him in some appropiate accessories to cover his bureaucratic modesty?

marbleflugel,

I've just been rooting around in the photobucket, I'm sure there were pictures of Roger Wright there, with some girls but couldn't find them.

But I did find this:  Grin
