I've been reading this page:

http://buggydoo.blogspot.com/2007/06/contest-humiliating-moments-in.html

and the comments on it for the past god knows how long; only half way through...but...yeah; pretty horrific anecdotes!

Edit: FInished; finally!

Blimey, it's busy out there on the boards today! I can't keep up. Actually I mustn't keep up - too much to do. Maybe later. So much interesting, trivial, gossipy stuff - god, religion, wars, the nature of evil, homosexualism (as Grew would have it), Ian's ciggies. Phew!  Shocked

I dunno, you wish someone a Happy 105th Birthday and best wishes on their civil partnership and before you know it....

You've captured how I'm feeling with uncanny accuracy, George ...

On a different tack... I am considering buying a cheapish digital piano so I can play at any time using headphones. I have this bad habit of wanting to play late in the evening and it is not very considerate. I also prefer to play to myself - so headphones would be most useful!!

Any advice on what to consider. I used to have very large 'clever' ones when I was working, but now I need basic and cheap!!!

Any ideas useful!!!

A,

I was looking for one just before Christmas. The one that was eventually got was Casio Privia PX - 300. Or another possibility which none of the shops had was Yamaha P60. The touch isn't bad, but it's proportional with the price. Roland is best, but you say cheapish, so if you can afford one, go for it!

Thanks euranto... any idea how much these are? I don't want to waste my money but want something that has a reasonable touch .

The touch varies as much as actual pianos - so drag the fusspot kicking and screaming out of its very deep hole when in the shop.

I think the Casio was somewhere around £300-400 mark. I remember salesperson saying the Yamaha was in the same sort of league...

I used to have Yamaha electirc piano. It had good touch that was similar to piano. It is convinient to play to yourself whenever you feel like it.
It is not easy to work on delicate touch on electric piano, but it is possible. My friend got himself Yamaha on the net cheaper than in shops here, but I don't know how he did it.

I have a Clavinova at the house (no room for a proper piano, nor do my housemates have the temperament to suffer my playing on one), and it's good.  However, if you're in a flat; be warned that such full-bodied instruments, even with headphones on, still can produce quite a racket on the floor below you!
