Indeed, I just saw that myself Tinners. Thank you. I can tell you that i am at a lost with how to explain to my partner in crime, the difference between Eb and D# and the reasons of the change in modulation etc.

Depends if you need to explain it. The best approach might be to just forget about it and just play it.
If you're really curious, I suggest you get hold of a copy of the last page of score, scan it in and put it up here. You're sure to get at least 20 different interpretations of why exactly it's a D# or Eb!

I was generally admired and complemented.

Good to hear that!
Rather disturbed about the bazooka though. In my experience these things are not toys... Wink

What does he play then? He plays something sounding like that.
He described how it is tuned.
My hairdresser is such an interesting man. To tell you the truth most people are very interesting.
Here is his space. I am trying to listen to composer of the week and to this space: www.myspace.com/sandfly22
You can try too.

Probably a bazouki t-p. A bazooka is a weapon, a sort of grenade launcher if I am not mistaken ? A bazouki is in that family of stringed instrument like an oud, balaliaka, mandolin or even lute.

Thank you, BobbyZ.
I forgot how many strings he said this thing has. He said that the strings next to each other are tuned one octave apart.

I just got a SMS from my regular violinist. He said that I played well.
I just want to help him. The woman who introduced us is from Dublin. She told me how to apply for grants. I said that I don't need it now, but call the violinist right away.
His teacher (conductor here) also played very well. I was proud of them. Insidentally, he is a friend of hh friend (Do you remember a polish sounding name?). He is writing a book now.
Incidentally, I am listening to Mingus on listen again. I am surprized that I know some of the music they play.

Right. Tomorrow I will be putting recital-preparatory-performances Stage 1 into practice; the student performance class. There may well be people there with whom it is fairly vital that I break down various barriers - or at least attempt to. I doubt it will be mendable myself. May I be granted Milly's strength of character.

What a compliment, thank you.   Embarrassed

All the very best with your endeavours anyway.

No it's not! Cheesy

That's what happened to me when I tried to link to Bananarama and three Norns yesterday on M&S. Cry Cry Cry

Aaah!
I could still see my image until I refreshed my page and then I saw that it was verboten.
I've replaced it with a new image.

It looks like a flute-playing beaver to me. Down, Tommo!

I have to admit I read t-p's original post without blinking an eye. I always forget which is a bazooka and which is the other thing, so it seemed to make perfect sense to me (well, as much sense as a bazooka/bouzouki-playing hairdresser in the West of Ireland is ever likely to make ...).

I'm not an expert, but isn't it a marmot with a bazooka?

On stringed instruments Eb and D# are the same

No they aren't.

(edit: not unless the instrument has frets anyway. Which bouzoukis of course do.)

I don't know if I will ever get over the mental picture of a hairdresser learning to play the bazooka. I thought the bagpipes were terrifying enough.

Where are you going, bbm?
I want to have a holiday too.
Bring lots of pictures to show us, though it is difficult to post them here. May be people can teach you.

I was told to look at this site last evening.
There are Irish composers there.
