I've downloaded this freeware from the Mac site - a nifty little player which not only deals with a wide variety of file types but very usefully will also convert to some of them, including AAC and Apple Lossless, too. Initial experiments very promising.

Flac in only, trj, but it does that very well: now at last I've been able to listen to those Czech Brandenburgs easily.

That's all I need (for some reason I've never been able to get any of the alternatives to mount on my machine). Just need something that will open files from the Avant Garde Project...
