I too had never heard of this composer until recently and have much enjoyed the programmes. I found that the music did not demand attention in the way that, for instance, my 'Les Six' CD of flute and piano music recently has, but that is my fault.  What with Mahler marrying Zemlinsky's girlfriend and Schoenberg marrying his sister and Zemlinsky himself marrying someone else in the circle, they must have been a very interesting group.

SusanDoris, Recently in program about Shoenberg they said that his wife (sister of Zemlinsky) run away from him with someone (forgot the name). Then she was persuated to come back to Shoenberg and their children, but her lover killed himself.
I find Zemlinsky music very interesting and talented. It is strange that history passed him by and people forgot him. Now there is interest in his music. His first symphony was fascinating and beautiful.

As always I admire your skill at finding photos! Very interesting face.

I have exchanged some interesting e-mails recently with a poster from another MB who would, I think, be an asset on this site. He is very knowledgeable and reading his e-mails is like going to an interesting lecture. I have mentioned this board to him and will do so again. I sent him the link to the Listen Again for Zemlinsky programmes and he wrote to say he had listened to some of it. The name was not entirely new to him, but the Composer of the WEek programmes last week must have stimulated quite a bit of interest I think.

Thank you SusanDoris.
I found Zemlinsky's music fascinating. It is very original, Romantic music. I was fascinated with Alma Mahler. She is very young on my post and I never saw this picture.
