How was it, cathythinks? Lots of party tricks included at the end to demonstrate what the new organ can do, I hope Smiley.

There's another chance to hear Thomas Trotter, this time playing all six of Bach's Trio Sonatas, at 3.00 this coming Sunday (13 May) in St Albans Abbey. It's in aid of the Organ Restoration Fund: Admission Free but there's a Retiring Collection (i.e. you will have to pay to get out again Cool ).

[Voice from back of nave: 'Ang on! If you are having to raise £830,000 to have the organ restored, it's obviously going to sound rubbish isn't it? If on the other hand (and feet, Ed) Thomas Trotter manages to make it sound wonderful then you obviously don't need to spend that sort of money restoring it. Which is it? Eh?

Fundraising Committee: Shuddup.]

Well ours was, of course, splendid, and Tom did us proud with demonstrations of how the organ could imitate this and that (including, of course, a very good imitation of a fairground organ and some bits of TV theme music and so on, lots of good jokes. I didn't get the TV ones, being a sad case myself, and out of touch with popular culture, but they made the rest of the audience laugh a lot). And he gave us some magnificent virtuoso stuff well chosen for the style of the new organ. Ligeti's Hungarian Rock, for instance. Now that was amazing... Maybe he'll give you that one at St Alban's tomorrow?

It does seem odd to give a major recital on the old organ if what you need is a new one Roll Eyes
We have been having difficulty selling off the CDs that were made of our old organ in aid of the organ fund, perhaps not surprising really.

But maybe what they'll do is keep you in, listening to the old organ until you pay to get out. The louder it gets the more you'll realise you need to get away, or pay to have it improved. Perhaps Tom will demonstrate its faults??? Now that sounds like a concert one might not pay to go to, but you might pay to leave.
