A weekend programme of concerts in Northhampton in October:

http://www.malcolmarnold.co.uk/news/index.php

I confess that the main attraction for me is:

Quote
The gala evening concert planned for the main auditorium at the Royal & Derngate on Sunday 7th October, by any measure, will be a remarkable occasion. Paul Mann will conduct Jon Lord and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in a special recreation of the original Deep Purple/RPO concert at the Albert Hall.

There are other things I wouldn't mind hearing (Oboe Quartet, 5 Pieces for Violin and Piano, Clarinet Sonatina, etc.) but I'm not terribly interested in brass band music, and I certainly wouldn't want to spend the whole weekend there in any case!

Does anybody know how tickets for the event will work? Can I pick-and-choose which concerts I get tickets for, or would I have to buy one humongously-priced all-inclusive weekend ticket?

It's normally pick, choose and pay for just the things you want at these festivals, IRF, so we'll keep our fingers crossed that you don't have to buy for every event...

The actual pricing was nothing like I expected. The Sunday evening concert was a pretty hefty amount but then an extra £10 lets you get into any of the other weekend activities, the talks as well as the concerts. So I got myself a weekend ticket and I'll just see what I feel like doing when I get there (it also depends on whether I can manage an overnight stay on Saturday night).

Well, that was rather wonderful Smiley

I wrote a review (just very personal impressions) for members of the Deep Purple Appreciation Society. There's a copy of it on my web site, if anybody is interested:

http://www.heroes.force9.co.uk/music/arnold-2007.html

Paul Mann, the conductor, was kind enough to praise my "intelligent and perceptive comments" (he may have mixed me up with some other reviewer  Undecided ) and corrected a minor technical error in my original version (the percussion soloist had changed from the programme listing). So there's my new claim to fame  Cool
