For anyone London based, I shall be singing (chorus)  in a performance of RVW's Sea Symphony witht he Fulham and Hammersmith Choral Society in St Augustine's, Queensgate (South Ken) on 15/12.

I've enjoyed singing it in the past. I'm afraid I'm not near enough to go to yours.

How does a non-auditioned choir work? Is everyone competent (or they wouldn't be doing it), or do you get people who really don't know what they're doing?

This one seems to work quite well (they don't always).  The conductor is very pro-active in providing rehearsal CDs and rehearsal schedules, and it is made quite clear that you are expected to work at the music outside rehearsals, particularly if you don't read that well.
