Could I just draw your attention to this fantastic place?   I know that lots of you already know about it and have been there.  I'm a patron and I received this link this morning, which will help in a very small way, every time the browser is used to surf the net.  It will cost you nothing.

For further information on this beautiful old music hall have a look at www.wiltons.org.uk.

Thanks - they need all the help they can get to restore the building which is an ongoing task.

It is a rather splendid place with a very pleasant atmosphere. I played (piano) there a couple of years back along with other pianists. (I couldn't get your link to work, Milly, but that may just be my computer).

Milly knows all about you and that Yamaha, auto. She took part in the brief discussion we had about it at the time, on one of the BBC boards. Wink

Try this then...

It costs you nothing to do but they receive just over £1 with every click.  If enough people use it to surf it would mount up.

Did I not give you a copy of the DVD? It's used as one of the backdrops on that.

I take it you meant the group photo. They are not mine, by the way. Taken by the birthday boy's better half IIRC. I was simply sent a CD-R with some on to use to brighten up the screen when the DVD menu is used.

Wish I'd been there that night.

I can't get up to London nearly so often these days, but my loyalty to Wiltons remains.  It has a great atmosphere.  It's a massive undertaking to renovate and repair the building and with each year that new building regs come into force it makes it more and more difficult to get it up to date.

I'll tell you how difficult it must be!  My house was built in 1970 and is obviously modern - I've recently had an electrical safety check and the work needed to bring my home up to date with all the new rules up to this coming year has been immense.  It hasn't been quite a complete rewire, but there was a lot of work.

So, trying to bring Wiltons up to date, with regard to the actual building work  and all the other necessities, is a mammoth task.  I hope that it will be possible and that people will be generous.

I LOVE that place. And I'll click away if it helps, Milly. Is it only in recent years that Spitalfields Festival have used it? Very special atmosphere, very nice, intimate acoustic.

I'm clicking for you too, Mills!

They've just renovated the theatre in Arbroath, and tomorrow night is the official opening. The RSNO are doing outreach work in Angus this month, and they're giving the opening concert, which was sold out almost as soon as it was announced. I nipped along last week to see if there were any returns, and I've just had a phone call to say that there's a single available should I still want it, so I'll be off to that.

It's a pretty complete renovation - virtually all that remains of the original is the facade and the two side walls: there's a new foyer and auditorium, whilst the stage area has been extended backwards and replaced with hydraulic platforms allowing for different configurations, and the fly-tower is new, too. I've only seen as far as the foyer yet, but they've done a fabulous job on that. That sounds like a huge amount of money and work for a burgh with a population of under 25,000, but it has strong traditions in amateur drama and music, and all the venues are used virtually every week.
