Hmmm,

In the message above I changed 'ESO Symphony Orchestra' to English Symphony Orchestra but on their ESO website they NEVER refer to the English Symphony Orchestra.

Why can't they call it the English Symphony Orchestra?  - yeah, I know, cos it isn't...  Undecided

They started out life as the English String Orchestra, John, before moving into more symphonic repertoire. (But maybe you knew that already). They couldn't use the name English Symphony Orchestra at that time, because the name was owned by someone else. I think, in the end, the name ownership changed hands, but I can't recall in which direction.

Thanks Martin.

I didn't know that, Martin. My confusion is due the local papers listing the event at Coventry as with the English Symphony Orchestra

I took part in BBCTV's Songs of Praise from the Gateshead Sage in 2005 and PLW was musical director for the event--quite a character.
