Tommy,
I managed to get along to the Barbican on Sunday, and it was indeed stunning. The only problem at times (at least where I was sitting) was the balance: the sheer size of the orchestral forces threatened to ovewhelm the singing in a few places. This was my first live Pintscher, and there was lots in it to admire, though on one hearing it didn't quite gel. But I loved the sounds from the contrabass clarinet!
Die glückliche Hand and
Bluebeard were both marvellous: wouldn't they make a wonderful and fascinating staged double-bill? (Plenty of work for the lighting crew!
) Very glad that Boulez got a thunderous ovation at the end.
Were any other r3ok boarders there?
