On Saturday 10th March the combined choirs of Little St Mary's Church Roll Eyes in Cambridge (Junior Choir and Parish Choir) sing evensong at Bury St Edmunds at 5.30 pm. The music list is as follows

Responses: Reading
Canticles: Hylton Stewart in A flat
Anthem: God so loved the World, Chilcott.

I'm not saying this will be the world's greatest choral performance (you'll probably get a higher standard on normal weekdays from the Cathedral Choir), but I thought I'd tell you it was happening just in case you're nearby and at a loose end. And by the way, I shall be singing.

Hope you get a good turn-out, cathythinks; Evensong is, for me, an oasis of stillness in a busy world. There's nothing quite like it.

I'll let you know what the turn out is like. It sounds as if it will be a bit weird because the service includes some ceremonies for the Order of the Temple of Jerusalem and the Industrial Temple of the Grand Priory of Knights Templar in England and Wales.

The mind boggles. Visions of knights in armour on white horses float before the eyes. But I suspect it won't be quite like that. We'll see.

Since I used to know somebody who sang with the Cathedral choir (and passed the old pile on my way to work) I may make an extra effort to catch that one.

Really?! These people exist?! Looking forward to a full report Smiley

We have a funny Freemasons do at our local cathedral once a year. Goodness knows what they get up to in there. I did think of trying to infiltrate it one year wearing a pinny and carrying a rolling pin but I've a feeling I might never be seen again if I was discovered.

This one's today, in case anyone's still interested.

Oh and by the way, the conductor is Christian Rutherford

There weren't any knights in shining armour, alas.  Cry

A good turn out of our supporters though, and obviously some belonging to the Order of Knights Templar which seems to be an organisation seeking to revive some values of chivalry and service, with a kind of monastic structure. But we didn't get to stay for the initiation ceremony which was after evensong.

I did find myself thinking vaguely of Don Quixote and tilting at windmills... But I think that's probably deeply unfair.

Anyway, I trust God was pleased with our efforts at the choral bits. We did our best and it was better than our best has sometimes been.

I still remember the events that followed the ordination of Dr.David Jenkins as the Bishop of Durham at York Minster. If you managed to avoid anything like that you can't have done too badly!
