I'd like to share with you a recital I went to on Sunday evening: Adrian Brendel and Tim Horton (cello and piano) playing music by Stravinsky, Beethoven, Bach and Brahms. A long concert but they had the audience fully engaged all the time. We expect two players to have some sort of rapport between them in such a concert but theirs was very special. My only regret is that we didn't have a bigger venue for them but we hope to amend that if they come again, which I feel quite sure they will.

They are two remarkable musicians and they joined a few of us in the pub afterwards, providing excellent company. I admit I had one more than I should have but what the hey. It was a very memorable evening.

I was reading your post several times. At first I thought that it was Alfred Brendel accompanying. I thought I did not know that Alfred Brendel performs as a pianist in ensemble. I thought that Tim Horton was a cellist  and you  put cello and piano in the wrong order. I kept returning to the post. Then I google to find out that it is Adrian Brendel - the son of Alfred Brendel and that they play together sometimes.
So this recital is twice as interesting. I am glad that it was a good concert and son is a good musician too.

tp,

Alfred Brendel is coming to play for us in June this year (I look after the publicity side, posters, programmes, press etc). Something I'm really looking forward to. Whether he'll join us in the pub afterwards, though, remains to be seen! I don't think there are many tickets left but if any of you out there want to come along, then introduce yourself to me and join us for a very sociable evening. We've got the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment coming before that (albeit a cut-down group - strings only I think) playing Bohemian baroque music, including music for double bass (I'm afraid I don't have the prospectus to hand as I'm not at home right now).
