The Mendelssohn and Gorecki are good  (fresh and rustic respectively).

I always think the St Paul's Suite is a bit naff - joggy joggy G&S-at-its-worst-type stuff.

The Griegs are two of my favourite string orchestra pieces, especially 'Last Spring'.  Really nostalgic music, with so many opportunities for imagining a programme to it.

And of course the Dvorak is brilliant - up there with the Tchaikovsky and Suk as far as great String Serenades are concerned.

(The first 4 are all sort of the standard for good school / county orchestras, so a worthwhile concert going to for anyone looking for inspiration in that area).
