I was going to enter this event in the forum calendar but doing that also posts an announcement message - which I've already done  Roll Eyes

I could do it next week and delete this thread  Undecided

gives me time to find out if the event starts at 2 or 2.30; had conflicting information. Roll Eyes

Sounds splendid.  Pity it's so far from Northumberland.

As an ex-Coventry resident, I'm trying to remember whereabouts Holy Trinity Church is.  Can anyone enlighten me?

Ian,

Holy Trinty Church is one of 'the three' spires and is right on Broadgate, with the catherdrals behind it.

It's an awful place for a music concert because there are so many pillars in the way (depends where you sit I suppose).

Just realised that Coventry are playing at home that afternoon so I'm afraid the football comes first (since I've already paid for that ticket!).

Ian, I expect when you were in Cov the library was next door to Holy Trinity? That's gone now, a shopping mall is there now, and the library moved to a very spacious location in the Locarno night club building (Precinct). It's now an excellent library with a huge music book section for all genres, over 2000 classical CD's and probably 6000 rock'n'pop.

Hi John.

Yes, the newly built library was near to Holy Trinity in my day.  Actually I've been to the new new one (!), as I paid a return visit to Coventry in 2001, exactly 25 years after leaving.

Libraries didn't seem to be built to last in the 1970s.  Newcastle upon Tyne Central Library, opened as relatively recently as 1970, has gone and is being reprovided.

The massive 6-storey central library in Birmingham (1976) is due for demolition even though it provides the roof for an interior mall, I expect that will go as well, also the newer Copthorne next door is going. The complex is a bit of an eyesore one one side, don't know why the development was left unfinished. A real tale of woe:

Yes, very sad.  Is it possible that its opening date may have been just a little before 1976, as I spent many happy hours in its music section whilst livng at Coventry, which I left in July of that year.
