Thanks, Ron, for those wonderful stories. Fascinating.

Mart - re communality. I need to think more about how that relates to painting, sculpture, architecture, perhaps even furniture, tapestries etc. But as far as music goes - leaving aside for a moment the question of how we deal with recorded music - even if we are trapped in our own heads and our own individual reception of music, which is clearly dependent on so many factors which have been rehearsed on many threads here before, we are all processing basically the same information, despite variables like seating positions etc. Listening on our own is still a sharing between composer, performer and listener - even when all three are the same. (However, when that is the case I think it only becomes a performance when there is a(nother) listener present.) Listening to recordings is different again, and the etiquette of that experience is quite different for many people - I notice, for example, that plenty of contributors to this board listen whilst doing other things, something I find impossible (except, irrationally, whilst driving.) And perhaps that need to focus (listen) in a particular - almost ritualistic - way is something that colours my definitions, my line in the sand, more than even my professional work.

I thought about this the other day and convinced myself that I had missed it, but no - upon searching these boards I fnd the events take place next week!

Just in case anyone wanted reminding.

Tommo

PS  I have remembered twice and promptly forgotten, so what's the betting I next remember in 14 days' time?

A pity that Matthew's last post was on 27th November . . . (?)

Not really, autoharp, we are only one of dozens of interested parties. Anyone really interested in this event (six events) should be checking out:

He may have changed 'the rules' slightly,I'm not sure.

I was fairly disappointed to notice that too, especially as I did meet him in person shortly after he started this thread and he assured me that he intended to get round to joining in some other threads.

Thanks for the link, John - although my computer doesn't seem to want to go there!  My comment was really to express discomfort with someone who uses this board only to publicise his/her own project. There are, I suspect, several "regular" members who are reticent to plug their own concerts or activities - they shouldn't be reticent in my opinion.

autoharp, yes I take your point, he was quite enthusiastic when he was posting here. I expect he has been trying to get some media interest or a celeb involved Roll Eyes We'll find out if it makes any of the arts columns/news next week.

I will participate and send him a bus ticket  Cheesy

Just send it to him via BMIC. I'm sure he'll get it.

Absolutely, auto! If, for example, I been made aware of a certain very recent event in Brighton somewhat earlier, I could have made arrangements to attend....

I said this and it wasn't a lie, I did intend to do some more, of course not straight away...as I said recently: i have my whole life to live yet; I have been extremely busy and Ive got RSI.....next time i do a project like six_events I will definitely need a secretary! i had about 800 emails in 2 months, just about six_events....thats not esy to go through, especially when one attempts to hold down 2 jobs, a teaching post, a degree and a limited social life! talking on message boards didnt seem too appealing at the time!

best
