A little revolution now and then is a good thing; the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. (1787)

Thomas Jefferson

he also said 'As you say of yourself, I too am an Epicurian. I consider the genuine (not the imputed) doctrines of Epicurus as containing everything rational in moral philosophy which Greece and Rome have left us. '

oh yes, what a GUY Smiley

Well, I actually believe the main reason why the Radio 2 and 5 Live main boards were axed is because they were getting attention from the press - and it wasn't good attention, either! Plenty of posters were up-in-arms with goings on at Radio 2 and 5 Live.

For example, the appointment of Chris Evans on Drivetime accumulated well over 1,500 complaints on a single topic! Ironically, though, the actual topic was posted on there by a Radio 2 Messageboard Host on behalf of Lesley Douglas! Then of course, there was the appointment of Russell Brand to Saturday nights and Sarah Kennedy accusing the buyers of her home of being "thieves". None of this was good publicity for Radio 2 and was getting attention from the press.

The same applies to the old 5 Live messageboard - when the presenters protested against the amount of negativity they were getting on the messageboard! A clear sign that Auntie Beeb doesn't like criticisms. Oh well.  Roll Eyes

I don't mean to sound all moderatey, but this is a Radio 3 board, could you please stick to Radio 3 talk on the Radio 3 forum and keep everything such as Radio 2 on the coffee bar.

Thanks

What really p**d me off was that there was no response at all from the Mods to the torrent of questions which resulted from the announcement of changes. (Although they may need to wait for a response from "higher-up" and the wheels of corporate decision making can grind very slowly).

If they had shown some of the "interactivity" which the beeb keeps bleating on about then maybe I would have given them the benefit of the doubt. As it is I think I'll stay away from the R3 boards in future.

I don't intend giving up on the R3 MB, in the years that I have been there I have learnt so much about classical music and made some good cyber friends.  I'll see how it goes after the 19th.

I only hope that the lack of response from the Mods means there might be some leeway in what appears to drastic limitations on what can and what can not be discussed.

I have reservations (table for two, 8:00)... no, I mean I am slightly worried about the future of this board without the mighty BBC Web site to funnel new people here. The only reason I was on the old board was because I followed a link from the Proms schedule last summer (then somehow you got stuck with me. Sorry about that Wink ).

Can a board survive and thrive without a steady stream of new members?

IRF, as I understand it Radio 2 actually post (or posted?) a link to the R2oK MB.

As I said, I'm not giving up on them and there is nothing wrong with posting a link on the R3 MBs to direct people here.

What annoys me is that R1 and 1Xtra have about six MBs each each dedicated to a different genre whereas we will have 4 dedicated to just 4 programmes.  I think the criticism of R. Wright and C. Hazlewood and the other presenters probably had something to do with the decision.

Is it me or do they keep closing the classical music radio 3 messageboard at odd times? Have they cut mod staff? I can get into the Tchaikovsky experience board easy enough

A revolution is not a dinner party (thankyou yellow chairman) . . . unless of course we make it so..

A revolution's ome thing - carrying it through is another.
