I see there is a programme on R3 this evening about Wind Turbines, their place in the landscape (in the bliddy way of the view) and even some music made from their sounds.

 (I don't believe it !!! they sound like "grumble-grumble-grumble" "whiiinnnne" "Swooosh-swoosh-swoosh" "Chomp-chomp-chomp" and "Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee")

I live 360 metres away from some turbines, and you can take it from me that they are a noisy, intrusive blot on my life, so if you miss the programme, come and camp in my garden and see what you think!

Disgusted of Truro.

ps Let m know what you think of the programme....and please dont go on about how these darned monstrosities are saving the planet - they ain't! For a start you should see how much concrete goes into their bases- not very environmental stuff, concrete. Then there's the fact they dont work about half the time, and need back-up....dont get me going, I'll go on all week! Grrrr!

What a pity we couldn't have something more like an aeolian harp that provides electricity as well. Then we could all be kept awake all night (burning all that wind-powered electricity) by the wailing of the generators.

In Helsinki there is a monument to Sibelis, built at the end of a promontory in a park leading outwards to the Ocean.  It's made of metal tubes, and when the wind blows over them, it's supposed to make strange and magical natural whistling noises.

Unfortunately even the Tourist Board admit that it doesn't actually work, and has never been known to make so much as a squeak in a hurricane.

How elemental!

In San Francisco they have this:

So that's air and water dealt with - anyone got examples of fire and earth based music?

It was an interesting programme and it reminded me (again!) of how I miss Twenty Minutes and live concerts on Radio 3 in general.

I don't have problems with sound, I live near the port of Rotterdam and I sleep perfectly well with these little friends in my ears:

I'm really a city person, I don't like to travel, the countryside doesn't interest me at all and birds are dirty.

But cats are simply adorable! Smiley
