Anyone know where to find a recording of Mr. Stoppard's radio play "Artist Descending a Staircase" which was originally broadcast on BBC Radio Three on November 14, 1972?  I had the opportunity of asking Mr. Stoppard himself at a book signing a number of years ago (before the dreadful Broadway production) but he didn't have an answer for me either!

I'd guess your best hope here for that one might be Stanley Stewart, jonnyD. I was certainly recording radio plays by that time, but know that I was busy that month, and not at home to be able to capture it. It's just possible that it's been repeated since, though it doesn't ring any immediate bells. Sorry.

I've got a recording of it from when it was re-broadcast on R3 on 22/1/80. It's on a reel-to-reel tape but it's possible, although by no means easy, to get it onto CDs. If you want to send me a personal message, feel free, but I won't make any promises that I probably won't keep.

Sorry, jonnyD and Ron.     I was playing in "The Philanthropist" through most of 1972 and had no recording facilities whatsoever.   Maddeningly, I don't recall the 1980 repeat when Andy D did.     Embarrassed  It was the tantalising alternatives which made me follow 'Sweet Charity',   "There's got to be something better than this..."
