Last evening I went to a concert in Truro, the Herold String Quartet...and they launched a CD of quartets by a young composer Vaclav Zahradnik (b 1978).

As I'm no lover of atonal modern music,so I prepared myself for the worst...  imagine my surprise and delight when they played the 2nd Quartet, so delightful, lyrical and enjoyable.(UK premiere performance)

Apparently when they last played in Cornwall they also performed a private concert, where they played this music, and the host was so impressed she funded the making of the CD.

Obviously last nights audience was similarly impressed - 100 CDs sold to the audience of 200 !

I imagine the CDs are available from the Herold Quartet website if any of you are interested....(let me know if not & I'll enquire).

I know this is largely covered by the pedantic thread, but there should be some kind of 'Mischievous Literalist' thread.

Good to know you enjoyed the concert Jan. I thought your post deserved a more constructive reply so I had a look at the Herold website. There isn't anything about this cd, there are downloads available but only of their mainstream repertoire ( Mozart, Dvorak, Smetana etc ) What else did they play at the concert, or was it all Zahradnik ?

 Embarrassed
Suitably chastened, I got me onto my googlepad and dug out this news item, which I thought might be of interest.
The full details of the concert can be found here.
I haven't discovered any details regarding the label on which this CD has been issued, so no help regarding tracking down copies.

Were you one of the 100 buyers of the CD, Jan?

Thanks for those links hh.....my computer is awful and refuses to copy & paste things!

Yes, I bought the CD.

The mysterious part of the news item in your link is where the Eden connection is...? We had the launch of the CD during the concert at Truro College. I dont know anything about involvement of the Eden Project ! Maybe they had a photo opportunity there or something.

(Eden gets in everywhere down here !!!)

More here if that's any help.

Does the CD say if it's distributed through a label at all? If not, it's probably worth clicking on the contact link from their website and dropping them a line.
