Dear All
I distinctly remember the Shipway recording of Mahler 5 coming out and often being praised for it's 'rough and ready' qualities. The Tring series contained many, many recordings with fairly big name conductors but many of them were pretty much straightforward run-thoroughs. Some got good reviews (not least an OUTSTANDING Grieg concerto with Ronan O'Hora, a spectacular Borodin Second, an excellent 'Planets' with Handley and very god series of Beethoven Piano Concertos (most of the recordings I mention here are now available on Regis, by the way).
