Driving home at 5.30pm I only then became aware of a Light Music special this evening on In Tune

I'm a great fan of what John Wilson is doing, transcribing light music scores from old films etc., and nice to hear some rarely broadcast music (since Brain Kay's departure from the main R3 schedule)

There was also a fascinating 'tour' round Maida Vale studios, very much alive still today with orchestras and Radio 2 specialist shows being recorded.

Live from the BBC SO's Maida Vale Studios
Tuesday 24 June 2008 17:00-19:00 (Radio 3)

Petroc Trelawny presents a special live edition from the BBC's Maida Vale Studios. Soprano Katherine Broderick sings the dramatic final scene from Richard Strauss' Capriccio and songs by Clara Schumann.

Alexander Rumpf conducts the full BBC Symphony Orchestra in works by Vaughan Williams and Grieg, and a reduced 'Light Orchestra' under John Wilson performs music by Eric Coates and Bernstein.

Also, BBC Proms Director Roger Wright introduces Proms Out & About, and Petroc talks to Christopher Cook about the history of the famous Maida Vale Studios.
