Scott Nelson. I can not tell you about technical problems of listening to radio 3 in the car. May be some one else will.
I tuned in for Rafferty programme and could not find list of pieces that were going to be played. Since I don't know many composers it is important for  me to see the list. The first piece was played by Kissin (Chopin). I think he played very well. Chopin is his strong point anyway. Then I could not understand what contemporary composer was interviewed.
I enjoyed Saint-Saens septet. I enjoyed that. There was Takemitsu played. It was not bad. I am kind of familiar now with Takemitsu and know what to expect. Rafferty mentioned composer Hoddinott, who I don't know. May be they will play him. This kind of chatting programme is good if one has time, because one one doesn't know what is coming.

Chopin, that was it! I remember Sean introducing it. I'll have to give him more of a listen when I drive home in the evenings. He seems quite laid back - a nice gentle way to finish the day. I previously listened to Mark Forrest on Classic FM but became tired of the adverts and prattle.

Looks like Sean Rafferty is my equivalent to Chris Evans on Radio 2.  Wink

T-p, the composer was James McMillan. A frequent guest on R3. Did you enjoy the Mahler song from Lorainne Hunt Lieberson ?

Yes, I did. This was really good. I could not catch her name because he said it too quickly. Lorainne Hunt-Leberson. She is the wife of this composer Leberson that composed a beautiful song for her that Rob Cowan played on breakfast not long ago.
Now I understand. Thank you.

I might have to listen to Sean via Listen Again. He's warming on me.

So long as he leaves Sean Rafferty and Andy Kershaw alone, I'm happy! Mind you, I suppose they could always migrate to Radio 2 if Wrighty decides to give them the chop!  Tongue

As I understand it the car radio will tune to the strongest signal for a given signal, which won't necesarily be the one with the least interference on, so it can be worth retuning from the "given" frequency.  There's one spot I've noticed this in on a few occasions when travelling into Wales having taken the M50.  You can potentially get effecs with reflections of radio waves off buildings overbridgs on roads etc which could be causing the effects you notice.  These probably would be frequency dependent so retuning may assist.

I would have thought that attempting to re-tune your radio while driving is probably more dangerous than using your mobile phone while ditto (though perhaps not as dangerous as trying to text).
