I've been recording Jazz on 3 most weeks now for a few months and I've been really enjoying listening to some of the programmes. I'd even say that I'm finding them more interesting than Hear & Now.

I know very little about the music - my music collection contains Miles Davis, Coltrane and a few others - but I was very impressed by Led Bib which I listened to today when I was travelling. Punk-jazz? Jez Nelson and guests seemed to want to avoid the term but they used it an awful lot.  Grin

They mentioned a few other names such as Polar Bear, Acoustic Ladyland - how could I get to hear them? I'll do a bit of googling first.

Andy

If you haven't already seen it and if you have the stamina, the jazzers have a mega thread going on here.

Acoustic Ladyland and Polar Bear seem to be particular betes noir to the guys over there. If I interpret them right, not so much because of the music ( though clodhopping rock beats and lack of swing aren't particularly popular ) but because of a perceived over representation of them on the radio programmes of a certain production company.

I'd be interested to see if these bands develop their approach at all  over time or remain fixed in this formula ( rather in the way that some punk rock bands moved on while others stayed "purist" )

Thanks Bobby. I don't look at the R3 boards very often but I had a v. quick look at the thread you link to, then gave up, I don't think I have the knowledge about Jazz to follow it. I just know that I enjoyed the Led Bib programme, whatever the music is called, and I wouldn't mind hearing some more that's similar. Acoustic Ladyland have the Hendrix connection in their name so that immediately attracts me as well.
