A mate of a mate of mine met Red Norvo in America some years back (obviously) and asked for his autograph. Red obliged immediately, and then said "Would you also like Mildred Bailey's autograph?" My friend, a bit puzzled, said "Of course, but she's been dead for years."

"That's OK", said Red, "when we worked together, I signed all the contracts for both of us. My forgery of Mildred's signature was so good nobody ever knew the difference".
