Apparently (I didn't hear it myself) Humphry Lytellton once asked people what were there favourite jass moments, that make you want to throw your hat in the air. So to speak.

Not terribly enthused by HL; he's a bit too dusty for me. But its a good idea, and one I've considered myself.

1) Trane coming in with his sax in So What (Kind of Blue). Awesome 'call and response' conversation.
2) Bemsha Swing (Monk), when the drums kick in towards the end.
3) Holiday moments: quite a few of these.
4) Monk:goddamnit, lots of those too.
5) Powell: when Sonny Rollins "thunders in", as Alyn Shipton described it, to supplement Bud.
