My current exploration is Art. Don't know much about the dude, but I have two CDs one that I like very much, the other recently procured from Amazon that I'm re-playing and evaluating.

Art Pepper seems to have a distinctive sound, not Coltrane, not Rollins, something else again that I'm currently enjoying.

Yeah that's him  Grin

Nice video; I enjoyed that.

The double bass is nice there too. Not many dudes do it well as a solo instument, it seems to me; even Mingus, I find, is momentarily great but not for prolonged periods across multiple tracks or sometimes even for one tune.

Read his autobiography, Straight Life.  Possibly one of the best?
